Veronica B. DeLoatch-Hill, affectionately known as “Mickie” or “Ronnye,” was born on April 26, 1946, in Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina, to Reverend Dr. Cleveland M. DeLoatch and Launsie Walden-DeLoatch of Woodland, Northampton County, NC. She transitioned peacefully on October 7, 2025.
Ronnye received her early education in Woodland and Scotland Neck, NC. She later attended North Carolina A&T State University in Greensboro, where she met her beloved husband of 60 years, Edwyn C. Hill of Columbus, Georgia. Together, they built a loving home in Cleveland, Ohio, where they raised their three children and remained active members of the community.
Veronica had a distinguished 30-year career as a Regional Human Resources Professional, serving two major retailers in Ohio. She was known for her leadership, grace, and genuine care for the people she worked with.
Her dedication to service extended far beyond her professional life. Veronica volunteered with the CH-UH School System, served as a campaign precinct chair, and was active with Family Promise and Menorah Park Volunteers. She held memberships in the Urban League, NAACP, Concerned Citizens of Tillery, and the Black Professionals Association. She was a strong supporter of the Greater Cleveland Food Bank, The City Mission, and Habitat for Humanity.
Veronica never lost her connection to her roots in Halifax County, NC, where she supported Brawley High School, the Scotland Neck Education and Recreation Fund (SNERF), Staton Senior Community Center, Shiloh Baptist Church, and Concerned Citizens of Tillery.
She loved attending family and class reunions, traveling, and reading. Her favorite places included Alexandria, Virginia; Martha’s Vineyard; and anywhere family and friends gathered.
She is preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Cleveland M. DeLoatch, Jr. Veronica’s memory lives on in the hearts of her husband Edwyn C. Hill; her children Sonya Patton, James M. Hill, and Tisha Hill; grandchildren Cameron J. Patton, Maya J. Patton-Orr, Jordan M. Hill, Jayden J. Hill; her sister Vickie D. Randleman, (husband Keith), and a host of extended family and friends.
Her life was a beautiful reflection of love, service, strength, and community. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
In Loving Memory
