Versie Mae Guerry, born February 25, 1947, in Cleveland, Ohio, to Narve and Bertha Jones, passed away peacefully. Versie spent her early years in Lorain, Ohio, until the age of 14 when she and her sister Shirley moved back to Cleveland to live with their Aunt Sarah. Throughout her life, Versie worked various jobs, including serving as a security guard, and was known for her resilient spirit and tenacity.
Versie had a profound love for writing poetry, expressing her thoughts and emotions through her words. Her heart was most full when surrounded by her grandchildren, whom she adored unconditionally. She was preceded in death by her parents, Narve and Bertha; her siblings Narve Jr., Dianne (Headen), Craig Lee, and Sylvester; and her beloved son Craig Douglas.
She leaves to cherish her memory her children, Marlene Jones and Vincent Jones; her grandchildren, Jay Jerome, Keasia, Valencia, and Raymond; her sister Shirley Peeples; her best friend of more than four decades, Theodore Guerry; and a host of nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
Versie’s self-confidence, strength, and straightforwardness were defining traits that left a lasting impression on all who knew her. She possessed a pride that came from a life well-lived, never shying away from speaking her mind with frankness and clarity. Her distinctive laugh could fill a room, leaving no doubt of her presence and spirit. Though her journey has ended, the strength and boldness she embodied will live on in her family and all those fortunate enough to have known her. May she rest in peace, reunited with those who went before her.
