Walter Lee Daniel transitioned from life to eternal life on June 13, 2021, at the age of 96. He was born in Uniontown, Alabama on January 25, 1925, to the late Mark and Juanita Daniel. In 1946, Walter married his helpmeet, Ethel Allen, and they began a journey that would last for 74 years. In this union, they welcomed 7 children, Dorothy Evans, Altha Daniel, Ethel Lillie, Trudie Latson, Walter Daniel Jr., Edward Daniel, and Mary Mims-Daniel.
Adamant that their children complete their educations, Walter made being a provider his main priority. Although he was denied much of a formal education, his impeccable work ethic and natural ability made up the difference. As his first employment, Walter delivered milk for Kraft Foods and worked 11 years as a miner in the coal mines of Alabama.
Part of the Great Migration North, Walter arrived in Akron in 1953, with hopes for better job opportunities. He retired from the City of Akron Water Department in 1992, after 30 years of service. In addition, due to his entrepreneurial spirit, he created a waterline installation business that he maintained well into his eighties.
Preceding him in rest are parents, Mark and Juanita Daniel; brothers, Albert Sanders, James Henry, Rufus and Junius Daniel, David and George Scott; sisters, Mary Lou Sanders, Willie Mae Wheeler, Celia Sullivan and Pearlie Mae Daniel Hudson; granddaughter, and Aja Danielle Latson.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Ethel; children, Dorothy (David) Evans, Altha Daniel, Ethel Lillie, Trudie (Lawrence) Latson, Walter Daniel Jr., and Edward (Crystal) Daniel, and Mary (Judy) Mims-Daniel; grandchildren, Veralyn Evans, Amber (Ralph) Roebuck, Jasmine Evans, Carmen (Curtis) Ford, Darnell (Sarah) Daniel, Gia Price, Maya and Osahar Latson and Mercy Mims-Daniel; great-grandchildren, Davin (Ashley) Evans, Daudi Evans, Carter Daniel, Kingston Roebuck, Avery and Taytum Ford; great-great-grandchild, Aubry Evans; children in love, Selaria Woodall and Hulon LaGrair; siblings, Isaiah and Jesse Sullivan; and a host of nephews, nieces, extended family members and friends.
Everyone had a different moniker for Walter L. Daniel – Dad, Papa, Popi, Pops, Grandpa, Mr. Walter, Mr. Daniel, Uncle Walt, Unc, Rooster, and the waterline man. All who knew him will miss his broad smile, strong opinions, and quiet demeanor. Rest well, Love, we will see you in the morning!
