The sun set far too soon on William Darryl Reid Sr., age 72 of Oakwood Village, Ohio. He passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 2, 2022, at University Hospital. Left to mourn his untimely departure is his lovely wife of 38 years Michelle Young Reid, his 2 beautiful children William Darryl Reid Jr, and Asia Leigh Reid. His brother Dexter Reid, And a host of nieces, nephews in laws, aunts, uncles, cousins, church family, and an abundance of loving friends.
“Darryl” as he was affectionately known as, was born June 15, 1950, in Norfolk, VA, to the proud parents of Edith Barnes Reid and William Ernest Reid. Darryl was educated at Booker T. Washington High School, then continued to Norfolk State University. His accomplishments didn’t end there. He continued by serving his country as he was drafted by the US Army, where he served as a Military Police Officer from 1970 – 1972. After ending that assignment. Darryl worked as a physical therapist at The Veteran’s Administration in Pittsburgh, PA.
While living in Pittsburgh, Darryl met his future wife Michelle Young. Where the two began their lives together. Shortly after they moved to Cleveland Ohio where they began another chapter of their lives together creating a beautiful family and continuing their careers. He continued his tenure with the VA as a Certified Driver Rehabilitation Specialist, then later retired. After retirement together they start a driver’s training school for disability students. It was the first African American school in the state of Ohio of its kind.
Darryl was an amazing man, a devoted family man, and a dedicated church Member of Mt Zion of Oakwood Village. While attending he full filled his servitude by serving on ministries that include, the ski club, nursing home, and Dads On Duty.
Darryl spent his personal time in a variety of ways. His hobbies include but not limited to skiing, golfing, bowling, and spending time with his precious family and friends. Later in life He became a member of the VFW, and the Masonic organization Prince Hall Ecclesiastes 120. Darryl was also an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan where he affectionately cheered them on to 6 Super Bowls.
William Darryl Reid Sr. was a dedicated and devoted husband, father, and friend. He will be greatly missed by his community, and all who have been blessed to have been touched by him.

I remember us celebrating Darryl and Will's birthday together (June 15). As neighbors, we had so many good times together. Your children - beautiful and accomplished. Michelle thank you and Darryl for the years of love and friendship. My love and condolences to the family. Hopefully, Darryl and Will are doing the happy time together in the place called Heaven.
