We are here today to honor and celebrate the life of William G. Brown Jr., lovingly known as “Brown” or “Junior.” William was born on February 27, 1968, in Cleveland, Ohio, to the late William G. Brown Sr. and Margaret L. (Boyd) Brown. He was the youngest of three siblings and grew up in the Cleveland Metropolitan School District, where he was known for his vibrant personality and his ability to light up any room he walked in.
In his high school years, William played running back on the East High School football team, took part in the summer sports program at Case Western Reserve University, and briefly played at Baldwin Wallace College, forming lifelong friendships with teammates and others who admired his humor and warmth. His energy and enthusiasm left a lasting impression on everyone he met.
William’s faith was an integral part of his life, as he came to know Christ at an early age. His mother, a dedicated Sunday School teacher and devout follower of Christ, guided him on this spiritual path. From a young age, William could be found singing in church choirs, sharing the joy and love of God through song. His faith was a constant source of strength and comfort for him, and he was always ready to spread that love to those around him.
After serving in the United States Army, William pursued his true passion: cooking. His natural talent in the kitchen led him to study the craft for many years, perfecting his skills and earning numerous awards for his delicious dishes. Cooking was more than just a profession for William—it was a way for him to bring people together. He loved hosting family dinners, backyard barbecues, and holiday gatherings where he could share his latest recipes and create lasting memories with loved ones.
William’s love for sports was undeniable, he was a lifelong fan of Cleveland’s sports teams, proudly wearing his Cleveland Browns, Indians, and Cavaliers gear. In addition to being a dedicated fan, William also gave back to the community by coaching and refereeing youth sports, including softball, basketball, and football year-round. His involvement in these activities was another way he shared his time and passion with others.
William’s family meant the world to him. He leaves behind his beloved sisters, Laura Underwood and Naomi Wells, with whom he shared a deep and loving bond. From his first marriage with longtime friend Michelle Brown, he is also survived by his children, William A. Brown (Victoria), Marquis D. Brown Sr. (Brittany), Mykal W. Brown (Ashanae), and Robert L. Brown, as well as his stepchildren with Christine Brown: Alexis Meyer (Tyler), Nathan Rorick (Sophie), Arrianna Nobles, and Lorenzo Nobles, all of whom he was incredibly proud of. William is also survived by his grandchildren, and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will forever carry his memory in their hearts.
William’s legacy will live on through the countless lives he touched with his kindness, generosity, and infectious joy. He will always be remembered for his love of family, his passion for life, and his ability to bring people together. Though he is no longer with us, his spirit will continue to shine brightly in the hearts of all who knew him.
