Willie Mae Johnson
Mrs. Willie Mae Johnson was born June 7, 1937, in Bellamy, AL. Born to Jake and Susie Nelson (preceded in death).
Willie Mae affectionately called Candy was educated at Rawlings and East Technical High School, class of 1956.
She accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Olivet Institutional Baptist Church. She sang in the choir for many years. Later, she left and joined New Light Missionary Baptist Church (Rev. V.J. Weathersby). She later joined, Zion Chapel Missionary Baptist Church (Pastor George Q. Stewart) where she was a faithful choir member.
Her chosen career was a pharmaceutical clerk. She also held various other jobs.
She met and married the love of her life, T. J. Johnson (preceded in death). She was the mother of two children, Sheila Ann Ross and Pamela Lynn McKinney. Drawing, dancing, singing, modeling clothes for church, staying active in groups she belonged to, and being an active member of choir was just a few of her favorite pastimes. She also sang with Mid- West Acapella Choir under Mr. Williams, Kenneth & Kenly Frazier for many years.
There were many treasured memories of our mother, however one of our most memorable ones of her was her first Christmas turkey that she burnt to a crisp. (You had to have been there).
She leaves to cherish her memories: daughter Sheila Ann Ross (Dwain), Pamela Lynn McKinney (Ronald), Grandchildren Omar, Bernard (deceased), Sean, D.J., Marian, Rhonda, Ronnie, and a host of great grandchildren. Sister Margaret Luden, along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Very special granddaughters, Celeste and Amber, whom she loved dearly.
