Yuwanda Whitley was born on January 15, 1961, to the late Marie and Alfred Whitley. She was raised in a large, loving family and was one of eight siblings: Alvin, Dina, Anita, Gerald, Lynn, Vel and Linda Whitley. From an early age, Yuwanda’s strong personality, independent spirit, and outspoken nature set her apart and made her unforgettable to all who knew her.
On Tuesday, January 13, 2026, Yuwanda peacefully gained her wings and was welcomed home with open arms. After fighting a long and courageous battle over the past several years, God gently whispered that it was time for her to rest. Though her passing leaves an ache in the hearts of many, her family finds comfort in knowing she is no longer in pain and is now at peace.
Yuwanda leaves behind to cherish her precious memory her devoted daughter, Brittany Whitley, and her beloved granddaughter, Nalani Curry, who was the light of her life. Yuwanda shared a deep, unconditional love with them both, and her presence, guidance, and affection will be missed beyond what words can ever express.
Yuwanda was a woman of strength, resilience, and unwavering determination. She was outspoken yet loving, independent yet supportive, strong yet compassionate. She was generous with her time, selfless in her actions, and always willing to help those she cared about. No matter the situation, Yuwanda stood her ground and fought for what she believed in, earning the respect and admiration of everyone around her.
Known for her vibrant personality, Yuwanda truly knew how to enjoy life. She loved dancing and “showing out” whenever there was a party or family gathering, bringing laughter and joy wherever she went. She enjoyed listening to her blues music, scratching her lottery tickets, and spending time surrounded by friends and family. Her smile, laughter, and presence could light up any room.
Yuwanda was deeply loved and adored by a large circle of friends and an extended family who will forever treasure the memories they shared with her. Her love, strength, humor, and fighting spirit will live on through the lives she touched and the hearts she filled.
Though she is no longer physically with us, Yuwanda’s legacy of love, strength, and resilience will continue to guide and inspire those who knew her. She will forever remain in our hearts, and her memory will live on through the stories, laughter, and love shared in her honor.
