Curtis is a retired Cuyahoga County Court of Common Pleas Juvenile Probation Officer and Youth Development Coordinator. He was also employed with the Cleveland Municipal School District as a teacher and athletics coach. Curtis was a Certified USA Track & Field Official (Master Level) as well as an Ohio High School Athletic Association Registered Track & Field Official for over 25 years. In 1999-2000 he was elected President of the North East Ohio Track & Field Officials Association.

Curtis is a Shaker Heights High School graduate and attended Cuyahoga Community College. He earned his B.S. degree from Indiana State University. Curtis has been a dedicated Life Member of Kappa-Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc., since 1972. He serves the Calhoun Funeral Home family as a Funeral Services Associate.

Curtis and his wife Michele are the proud parents of one daughter, Curstyn.
