Aaron was born on October 25, 1942, in Cleveland, Ohio to parents Aaron Waters Sr. and Marie Spears-Waters. He was the second born of seven children. He attended Cleveland Public Schools and graduated from Thomas Edison High School in 1961.
After graduating, Aaron held several jobs. He worked for UPS, and he worked at the airport. However, Aaron was most known as a business owner with several businesses. As an entrepreneur, he first founded and operated a record shop called Aaron’s House of Sound at 123rd on Superior Avenue in Cleveland. Later in 1977, he purchased a store front building with three apartment units on the upper level, which was across the street from his first location. The new business he opened was called The Music Shop. It was around this time that he converted to Islamic beliefs and legally changed his name. He was well known in the community for decades in the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s. His business and other surrounding black owned businesses were thriving. He ran his business until his illness kept him from doing so. Later in life he renounced his Islamic beliefs.
Aaron loved his family. During his recovery from a major illness, he spent time with his family in South Carolina. While in Cleveland, he was known to show up every Thanksgiving with a huge turkey for his sister. During the Christmas holidays he would take her a bottle of champagne.
Aaron had good taste. His first car was a 1961 black Cadillac. He also owned a 1969 Oldsmobile Ninety-Eight. Aaron rode in style and dressed to impress from head to toe. He was an avid reader, he enjoyed Forbes Magazine and Architectural Digest. In his early years, he enjoyed horseback riding. He was a vegetarian and in his later years was very choosy about the foods he would consume. He was also very purposeful about purchases. He liked to only buy items made in America.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Billy Waters, and Alonzo Waters; and his sister, Alice Waters.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his sisters, Mary Alice Cotman (Clarence) of Charlotte, NC, and Ethel Waters of Bedford Heights, Ohio; brother, Toney Allen Waters of Bedford Heights, Ohio; brother-in-law Joseph Holley of Rockhill, SC; sister-in-law, Janie Waters of Rockhill, SC; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends and associates.
