Ada was born on May 1, 1935, to the late Otis and Gertrude McCall. Our Beloved went home to be with the Lord on January 29, 2019. She was born and raised in Yantley, Alabama. Later years she moved to Akron, Ohio where she became a resident for many years. It was doing those years she gained employment, later married (the late Fred Spear) and raised her three children.
Over the years her family continued to sprout with grand and great-grandchildren. Among her employment, one was with the Workman Overalls Company that was once located in Akron and later she became employed by Hawthorden State Hospital located in Brecksville, Ohio. After retirement life, she reunited her with an old friend, the late John Rodgers. They married and relocated to their home community in Cromwell, Alabama. They quickly became faithful members of the Fairfield Methodist CME Church where they served and enjoyed their community family. Upon the passing of her loving husband she later decided to relocate back to Akron. Ada, always seeking to be faithful as one of God’s servants, soon became a member of Greater Bethel Baptist Church where she served and gained the friendship of many caring and kind church members. To know Ada was to love Ada; she didn’t meet many strangers. She had this trusting, loving, innocent spirit that radiated and easily drew people towards enjoying her company and getting to know her better. In addition to her love of sharing time with family and friends, on occasions, enjoyed spending time finding that right hat to match that right outfit and baking her sweet potato pies to share with family and friends.
She was preceded in death by husband John Rodgers, son Calvin Ruffin, Mother Gertrude (McCall) Larkins and brothers Henry and Percy McCall. She leaves to cherish her memory son Ricky Spear, daughter Caprice Spear, sisters Min. Minnie Ruffin and Odessie McCall, brother Willie (Barbara) McCall, grandchildren Caron (Jennifer) Ruffin, Derrick (Heather) Spear, Candace, TeKeska, DeAngelo (Jennifer), Darius (Sammy) Spear, twenty-two great grandchildren, and host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
