Ms. Adrienne DeVey (“Sissy”) Young was born in Akron, Ohio on March 21, 1959, to the late Mr. Richard and Mrs. Norma J. Young. She attended Akron Public Schools, graduating from Ellet High School.
She was a dedicated volunteer at Koinonia Apostolic Faith Church food bank for more than 3 years. She took pride in providing assistance to those in need.
Adrienne had a special love for people, especially children. She was a gifted craftswoman whose creativity was displayed in cross-stitching, crocheting, diamond painting, needlepoint, sewing, etc. She could work on a project and watch television simultaneously, never dropping a stitch. She enjoyed assembling 2,000 – 3,000-piece puzzles. Because she had a keen sense of direction, you would rarely get lost if she was with you.
Additionally, she was an avid collector of dolls of many nationalities. She had a giving spirit and freely shared her crafts with those she encountered. Her favorite past-times were eating out and shopping with her cousin, Paula Smith.
Adrienne was a life member of Greater Bethel Baptist Church, but occasionally attended Arlington Church of God because of their sign language ministry.
She was preceded in death by her father, Mr. Richard Young; brother, Richard Young Jr. and grandmother, Mrs. Hagar Young.
To cherish her memory, she is survived by her mother, Mrs. Norma J. Young; brothers, Phillip (Cynthia) Young of Akron, OH, James “Jimmie” (Hester) Young of Summerville, SC; sister-in-law, Pamela Young of Akron, OH; niece, Kristen Young of Toledo, OH; nephews, Richard Young III of Charlotte, NC, Audrey (Cadey) Young of Pittsburgh, PA and Brandon Young of VacaVille, CA; aunts, Ms. Rebecca Todd of Akron, OH, Ms. Teresa Washington of Demopolis, AL, Ms. Alberta Hatchett of Canton, OH; cousin/sister, Paula D. Smith of Akron, OH, and a host of family and friends whom she loved dearly.
Adrienne touched the lives of many who will always remember her quiet spirit, giving heart and contagious smile.
