Alan T. Williams passed away unexpectedly at the age of 64, on December 6, 2020, after a short illness. He was born to the late Deacon Stephen Williams and Dorothy Evelyn Williams on February 12, 1956.
Alan attended both St. Vincent – St. Mary and South High School where he played football. He loved the game, whether it was on a team or outside playing with his brothers and friends.
He loved attention as well, so he was known to take off his shoes and kick the football barefoot…and yes, he was good at it. He was the kicker at South High School and made multiple field goals. He also tackled his brother Raymond during a game in an attempt to prevent him from scoring again because Alan wanted to score a touchdown.
Alan was a famous prankster. He loved to try and scare people by jumping out of darkness. If he were not jumping out at you, he would have a scary story to tell to scare you and make you laugh.
Alan brought sunshine to many of our lives. At family events, his presence was cherished as we all looked forward to what new story he was going to tell. His most famous story, which has become a part of his legacy that he passed down through the generations is the “Coffin/Coughing” Story.
Alan’s motto in life was to “Live and Let Live”. When around him, you would never feel sad or low because his bright personality would lift you right out of your dark place.
Alan attended Saint Vincent Church with his siblings during his elementary school years. Needless to say, Alan had his church pranks, but we will leave that to him and his siblings.
Alan was a cook and mainly worked in restaurants, but later switched careers and started his own business in landscaping.
Alan’s life partner was Nancy Wells. His children, in chronological order, are Yvette Bates, Alan Hargrove, Anthony Hargrove, Javin Hargrove-Morgan, Barbara Wells, Desiree Wells, Alonzo Williams, and Shayanna Williams.
Alan was preceded in death by his parents, siblings Stephen Williams, Deborah Hunter, Darryl Williams, and his son Anthony Hargrove.
Celebrating Alan’s life is his life partner Nancy; sister, Bernadette Wilson; brothers, Raymond Williams, Mark Williams, and Anthony Wilson; lifelong friends, Emmanuel Hughes and Aaron Bates; 7 children; 17 nieces and nephews; 13 grandchildren, and a host of grand nieces and nephews.
