Albert C. Sutton, who was affectionately known to his family as “Albert Charles,” began his legacy on April 19, 1951, in Cleveland Ohio, born to, Willie and Essie Sutton, the third oldest of seven children. Albert was raised in Cleveland, Ohio, and educated in the Cleveland Public School system. He briefly attended Cuyahoga Community College. He loved living in Cleveland and worked to improve the community by being a member of the Lardet Block Club and collaborating with the Ward 4 City Council to keep the neighborhood safe.
While Albert did not declare a specific church affiliation, he was certainly a believer in God, and attended various churches. Albert never married and had no children of his own but loved his nieces and nephews as if they were his own and was a devoted surrogate parent to all of them. Additionally, Albert provided considerable love to his extended family whenever needed being available to aid his family with encouragement, financial support, and unconditional love – often with a great sense of humor.
Most, if not all, people who knew Albert would describe him as having a very outgoing and magnetic personality. His smile was very contagious. He was a very giving and caring person much of his employment exemplified that image. He worked as an administrative assistant at New Perspective Counseling Center and later at Marriott Renaissance Hotels for over 20 years. There was a brief interruption in his employment with the Renaissance but returned to work at Marriott Key Towers on January 22, 2022, where he worked until his life’s transition. His congenial and caring personality made him well suited as an employee in mental health services and hospitality industries; Albert was a very well recognized as a dedicated, gregarious, and compassionate employee.
Albert had many attributes, yet one that stood out was his love for hosting and attending family gatherings. Albert had certain foods that he loved. Most importantly, there were specific family members that he would request to cook special meals for him, giving instructions and input on the specific way he wanted it prepared. He was also well known for his distinctive appeal to his stylish wardrobe.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Willie, and Essie Sutton; and two siblings, Ruth Johnson, of Plymouth, MI, and Marilyn Pawnell, Cleveland, OH.
Albert leaves to cherish his fond memory, his brother, William Sutton of Petal MS; sisters, Mahalia Meggs of Petal, MS, Beverly Ford, of Ypsilanti, MI, and Carol Wright (Jeffrey) of Cleveland, OH; his nieces and nephews – whom he shared very special bonds with each; as well as a host of cousins, and close friends.
