On this day, May 26, 1938, a handsome baby boy was born to Lillie Bell Scott and Cleveland Hilson, named Albert, in Greenville, Alabama. Upon entering high school, he met his high school sweetheart, Deanna White. He would go on to thrive and surpass the majority of his peers by graduating from high school, as most men in his time were not permitted. And as fate would have it, Albert & Deanna went their separate ways. Afterward, he traveled to Pensacola, Florida to reside with his sister, Clara, and brother-in-law, James, where he learned to work on cars. Maybe this was a prelude to his passion which would later become his career.
During his journey, life leads him to Albion, Michigan where some of his siblings resided. While in Albion, he worked at a factory building bombshells for the war. Once the war came to an end, so did working for the factory. He then decided to explore an entrepreneurial opportunity with Mary B. and Jimmie Jones. During this time, he also pursued an education and received his cosmetology license. He went on to independently serve Ohio as a beauty vendor & cosmetologist. As luck would have it, he ran into a man who owned his own convenience store. At that time, they struck up a conversation that would later introduce him to his career.
Albert went on to work at Ford Motor Company in 1965. Upon finding stability and security with the company, he reached [back] out to his high school sweetheart, Deanna. As destiny would have it, they reunited as if they never skipped a beat. They were united in marriage on July 15, 1966. Shortly afterward, they made Jerusalem Baptist Church (known as Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church) their church home, under the founding pastor, Pastor Hubert Powell. Three years later, they gave birth to a beautiful daughter in July 1969, named Dorothea Elizabeth Hilson. For over 30 years, he diligently worked at Ford Motor Company. He also went on to hold several offices at his church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lillie Bell Scott and Cleveland Hilson; his loving wife, Deanna Hilson; his siblings, Frank Smith, Robert Smith Jr., Mack Smith, Annie Nell Bell, Annie Mae Crenshaw, and Clara Pressley; and nieces and nephews.
