Alesia Mae Stone, our beloved mother, grandma, sister, aunt, and friend peacefully departed this life on Tuesday, July 10, 2018, after an extended illness.
Born on December 7, 1948, in Akron, OH. Alesia was the cherished daughter of Frances Stephens and Willie Stone and completed their family joining her older brother W. James.
Alesia spent her early years on Akron’s East side where many lasting friendships were started. She graduated from East High School in 1966. Alesia continued her education at Ohio University in Athens graduating with a BA in Early Education. She started her professional life as an educator with Head Start and subsequently transitioned to Secondary Education teaching history at Firestone High School and worked as an administrator with Girls Scouts of America. She loved history and was a lifelong learner. Combining family vacations with historical locations provided her with much joy as she desired to expose her children to varied experiences.
In 1970, Alesia married her High School Sweetheart, Hobson Hamilton. They were blessed with two children, Maria and Jordan. Career opportunities led them to Minnesota. Many new friends were made and winter weather challenges were encountered. While the couple divorced they remained faithful co-parents.
Focused, driven and determined Alesia continued working as a career counselor while initiating her own development. She obtained her Juris Doctor from William Mitchell Law School, St Paul, MN. She successfully passed the bar for MN, Ohio, and IL. The law opened new doors and provided Alesia with the opportunity to return home to Akron. Alesia was hired by Nationwide Insurance in 1990 and worked as a Claims Attorney retiring from this work after 15 years of dedicated service.
Family was extremely important to Alesia. While her career moved her around she never allowed the distance to impact her time and attention to her loved ones. Alesia was an active, and devoted daughter, grandmother, and aunt whether locally or across the miles. Mother, Frances moved in with Alesia over 20 years ago and the ability to be the primary caregiver was a key motivation to many decisions Alesia made.
Alesia leaves many behind to cherish her memory children Maria and Jordan Hamilton; grandchildren Joshua and Alexandria Hamilton, Katya Boddie, Jay’erra and Amir Hamilton; great-grandchildren Aaron Abdullah, Kehlani Hamilton; mother, Frances Stone; brother Jim (Jana) Stone; nieces Deidre (Larry) Jackson, Tiffany (Terrance) Hancock; great-nieces Lauren and Lindsey Jackson; great-nephew Gavin Hancock; special sister Cheryl Robinson; devoted friend Hobson Hamilton; cousins Sandra Terry, Deborah Stone along with a multitude of aunts, cousins and godchildren.
