Alexis Gwendolyn Johnston, daughter of the late Alec Davis Sr. and Lucille Parker Davis, was born on October 12th, 1948. Alexis graduated from East Tech High School in 1967. From there she worked the only job she ever had at Blue Cross and Blue Shield now known as Medical Mutual of Ohio for 43 years.
She retired in January of 2010 to be a full-time loving wife which she enjoyed more than anything else to James Edward Johnston Sr. Alexis met James in the summer of 1978 at James’ sister house. Tames was once over- heard saying this about Alexis that after God made her. He threw away the mold and blueprint because God never made a woman like her ever again! And he was right. Alexis impacted everyone she was around and
came into contact with. Her willingness to help and listen as well as just be there for folks still resides in their hearts and minds to this day. Alexis and James went on be married for over 40 years, something you rarely hear about in this day and age. Their son, James Jr once jokingly told his father that they ruined his idea of relationships because he wanted what they had but just couldn’t find it out here. It was no questioning what they had was rare.
Even though Alexis was everyone’s cousin she was commonly referred to as auntie by many in her family. Alexis was an avid reader of the Cleveland Plain Dealer and had a series of shows she enjoyed. Some of which included Designing Women, all the Law and Order shows, General Hospital, Guiding Light, As the World Turns, Manifest and just about anything on the Hallmark channel. But one thing she loved to watch more than anything was her Cleveland Indians now the Cleveland Guardians. Alexis was a lifelong fan of the baseball team. On any given day when the baseball team would mess up you could hear her saying “Darn it” or her favorite saying “Good Grief!” Alexis loved her technology as well. Up to her home final days Alexis loved using her iPhone and MacBook Pro and knew how to navigate around them with the best of them. Alexis was a Godfearing woman, and it was evident in her daily life. She made sure she included God in all things and prayed every day and thanked God for everything as well. On top of being a great mother, a great wife, a great auntie, a great friend, a great coworker, a great sister and more she was a great seamstress. Alexis created many suits for her son and dresses for her family and coworkers’ kids as well. Alexis made quilts, blankets and even made every day outfits for herself and her James as she called him. Alexis was a true and living example of God’s love, peace, and comfort in the flesh.
Alexis went home to be with God, her husband James Edward Johnston Sr, her aunt LaDonna Shurn, her parents Alec and Lucille Davis, Cousin Jim and many others who preceded her in passing on August 7th, 2022.
Alexis leaves to behind her son James Edward
Johnston Jr, her brother Alec Davis Jr, nieces Debbie and Ayanna Stewart, nephew Leon Stewart, cousins: Bryan Shurn Sr, Bryan Shurn Jr, Lakeya, Lakisha, LaKeeta, LaKoya, LaTanya, Allene, Donna and Herbert Lee Shurn as well as a host of more loving cousins, family, and friends.
