Alfreda (Hap) Hamilton was born January 31, 1933, to Tom Jackson and Thelma Mayes in Shannon, MS. Both parents preceded her in death. She received the Holy Ghost in the late 1930’s in Tupelo, MS under the Pastorship of her Uncle, the late Bishop N.W. Mayes, and under the leadership of the late Bishop M.L. Jewell of The Church of the Living God.
She moved to Cleveland, OH in June, 1944 with her family, consisting of her mother, the late Dea. Thelma Strange Wilson and sister Irma L. Jackson Hamm. She attended Cleveland Public Schools. She sang in the church choir and several groups and was a soloist. She was very active in church work, being a member of the food committee and serving on the clean-up committee. She was always willing to help by going to the homes of the sick and shut ins and cleaning for them. Alfreda was always willing to lend a hand wherever she could.
On May 1, 1950, she married William J. Hamilton. To this union was born Michalle Laverne Hamilton in 1951, William J Hamilton II in 1953 (who preceded her in death), and Rodney Albert Hamilton in 1956.
As she continued her church work, she was appointed Deaconess in 1982 and ordained in 1987 and was then appointed as Asst. Church Secretary. She also served on the Usher Board and performed in Cleveland as well as at the Church headquarters in Indiana. Deaconess Alfreda was a faithful member of the “Booster Action Club” where she served as the secretary and also the Sunshine Club.
She was well known for her style of singing Hymns and was often requested to lead praise and worship services. In her early age she would play the piano for some weeknight services when located on Kinsman Avenue.
She leaves to mourn: Daughter Michalle L. Warren (Donald); Son Rodney Hamilton (Jean); Sister Irma L. Hamm (preceded her in death); Grandsons William J. Warren (Iris), Rodney Curlee. and Anthony Williamson; Granddaughters Lydia S. Hawkins (Brandon) and Kianna Williamson along with a host of great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
