Please accept our condolences for the passing of Allen. I did not know until today. He was a family friend and will be greatly missed. He was our paperboy we have known him since Kerr Park . Erie Island thru adulthood. May the family be comforted daily by God, a memory,, family and friends and even a song. He will be missed. Rest Easy Al

I am so sorry to hear about Alan's passing. I was Told when I lost my son He only takes the Best . He is There for those I have lost . I told them at least have a chair outside for me . Alan see Rest in Heaven , Keep my chair open.

My condolences to the loved ones of Allan Thomas. I didn't actually know him but spoke with him on the phone. He was the portfolio manager at Akron Housing. If the tenants had an issue he was willing and ready to help solve the situation. He was a real asset to the tenants. We need more people like him in the world.

I am so sorry to learn that Allan passed. He was too young to leave us. Please accept my condolences. Allan and I knew one another through the Akron Metropolitan Housing Authority. I was appointed to the board in the late 1990s, so it was my pleasure to see the fine work that Allan gave to AMHA, his colleagues, and our clients and community over the years of his career. We respected Allan; it was sad to see him go, though it was a pleasure afterward when he took on responsibilities with Alpha Phi Alpha. Allan exemplified dedication to what really is a mission: to help the poor to achieve stable housing and get on their feet again. His family and friends should be proud of him. He will be missed.

Uncle Al was a great man and the best god father that I could have ever asked for. He supported me so much over the years. He attended every dance recital, piano recital, graduation, and he even presented me at my cotillion. I will always cherish the memories of him and I am grateful for all of the time I did have with him. My deepest condolences to my Auntie Wanda, Ms. Cannon, Alanna, Alyssa, and Alan.

I met Allan at age 17, a senior at Buchtel High School. I was his Cooperative Office Education (COE) teacher in the business department, Miss Streid. I helped him start his successful career as a typist at AMHA. He was promoted to every department there soon running the place as well as retiring from AMHA just a few years ago. I " threaded the needle", so to speak, while he took the thread all the way to the top. A diligent, patient, intelligent, hard worker as well as kind, funny, and always well- dressed man. My sincere condolences to his wife, children, and to the entire Thomas family. He spoke so highly of all of you and loved you so. He will be deeply missed.

I worked with Allan at AMHA for over 20 years. At one point he was my direct supervisor and he was the best boss! He is a true legend in the housing industry and served as our fearless leader for 42 years with many contributions to AMHA and those we serve. He will be greatly missed by those who knew him.

Allan Thomas was the very first person I met when I moved to Akron in 1986 to attend the Master’s Degree program at the University of Akron. It was a bright summer evening and I was anxious to see what Akron really looked like since I had moved here sight unseen to attend school. I had just gotten off of one of the last Eastern Airlines direct flights from Atlanta Hartsfield to Akron Canton Regional Airport at 4:00 PM on August 20, 1986. After setting my bags down at a friends house I went for a walk to stretch my legs and Allan and another guy were tossing footballs to the children behind the Old (defunct) Maple Valley Elementary School that sat at the intersection of Copley Road and Hawkins Avenue. The Maple Valley Library was also operating at the adjacent site. Any way, he invited me to join in tossing the “pigskin” and I did. We were immediately caught up in conversation and it seemed that we instantly comrades. We were the same age and had graduated high school during the same year. I told him that I was a little anxious to be starting my new life in Akron as a graduate student and he assured me that I would be up to the task. He told me that he thought the University of Akron was a good place with lots of support, and he was right. I didn’t see Al that often afterwards but when we run into each other he would always refer to our conversation and first encounter on that day. He said I told you that everything was going to work out. He was right and 37 years later God hasn’t failed me. I’m going to miss Allan just like so many other people in this community. He was a special person who always seemed to never be flustered and that everything was under control. His faith kept him anchored. I can’t comprehend how all of what happened this week, but I pray for his wife and family. Rest well Allan and God bless you all. Came to personally check to see if work that needed to be done in the apartments was being done correctly. He secured funding for our first Williams Tower Community Garden. We will miss him.
