Allen Edward Fite received his heavenly wings on Saturday, October 23rd, 2021. Allen was born on January 30th, 1944 to Cunningham Reynolds and Vera Louise Fite.
Allen grew up in Akron, Ohio, and attended Akron Public Schools, graduating from Buchtel High School in 1963. Allen served his country in the United States Navy and completed 2 tours of duty in the Vietnam War. He was a police officer for over 30 years with the Akron Police Department and served in the Reserves. Allen worked for the Geopfert Company for many years, where he became part of Tom and Sue Geopfert’s family. Allen, along with his wife Gwen, went on to own and operate one of the largest minority-owned and operated heating and air-conditioning companies in Akron. He ran for 4th-ward councilman and helped run the Juvenile Diversion Program under the direction of the Akron Police Department. After he retired in 2006, Allen and Gwen decided to relocate to the Hawaiian Islands. They owned and operated A&R Affordable Tours in Kapolei, Hawaii. So much for retirement! He was back at work again! Allen was an ordained minister and co-pastored along with his mother-in-law, Bishop Celia L. Ross, at the Chapel of Faith Church in Akron, Ohio.
Allen will always be remembered for his awesome ability to teach. He was a true giver in every way imaginable. Allen lived by the word of God and based his life on the scripture found in Acts 20:35, “It is more blessed to give than to receive”. His sons, his immediate family, and his extended family will always cherish the “funny” nicknames Allen gave them and his memorable one-liner quotes. To name just a few: “Are you good or good at it”, “You create your own misery”, “slow motion,” “it is what it is”, “for every action there’s a reaction”, “Class A Hackett School” and his favorite “it feels good to feel good!”
Take your rest my dear Edward, dad, grandpa, granddad, grandpapa’s, Sluggo, and uncle. You were an amazing husband, father, son, brother, and friend to all of us, and we will cherish your memory forever. You are already missed so much by your family and we loved you, but God loved you most. You truly stayed the course, you lived life to the fullest, and so we say to you, “SLOW MOTION!”
