Alphonso Hughes Jr. was born on January 19, 1959, in Cleveland, Ohio, to Velma L. Hughes and Alphonso Hughes Sr. He was preceded in death by his beloved parents, his cherished grandmother, Annie Ruth Roberts, his brother Derek Hughes, and his treasured grandson, Royal Jackson.

Alphonso was raised in Cleveland, Ohio, where he attended Longwood and Robert Fulton Elementary Schools, Alexander Hamilton Junior High School, and graduated from Max S. Hayes Vocational High School in 1977 with a specialization in electrical engineering.

Alphonso built a respected and accomplished career in electrical engineering, beginning at Dalton-Dalton-Little-Newport LLC, where his natural talent and dedication quickly became evident. Over the years, he lent his skills and expertise to several well-known companies, including Pardo Consultants, Inc., Ralph Tyler Co., Bowen & Bowen, and Onyx Creative. He was admired for his strong work ethic, quiet determination, and the pride he took in every project he touched.

Alphonso met the love of his life, Robin K. Kimble, and together they shared a beautiful love journey. Their relationship blossomed into a bond rooted in deep love, companionship, laughter, and unwavering devotion. Robin was not only his partner but his source of comfort, joy, and steadfast support. Their home was filled with warmth, shared memories, and the gentle presence of their beloved dog, Tess, who completed their little family.

Alphonso was a man of few words, carrying a meek and humble spirit that brought comfort to those around him. He possessed a calming presence, quiet strength, and gentle nature that made others feel at ease. He rarely showed anger, kept much of himself private, and moved through life with grace and humility.

Known affectionately as “Jurnal” to his family and “Fonz” to his friends, Alphonso also had a vibrant sense of humor and a gift for making people laugh.

Alphonso was the father of his only child, Jon Jackson, who blessed him with the gift of grandchildren, a role Alphonso cherished deeply. He loved being a grandfather and found joy in the legacy of family that continued through Jon and his children. Through them, Alphonso’s memory and legacy will live on.

In 2023, Alphonso was diagnosed with a terminal illness and was given a short time to live. But through faith, determination, and the unwavering support of his family—especially his devoted sister, Juanetta—he endured multiple surgeries and continued to fight with courage. After the passing of his mother, his illness became increasingly painful, yet he never complained or sought pity. His strength was quiet, but it was powerful.

In his final months, Alphonso was surrounded by extraordinary love and care. His loving fiancée, Robin, remained faithfully by his side, offering comfort and devoted care. His devoted sister, Juanetta, was a steady source of strength and support, helping ensure he was cared for with dignity and love throughout his journey. With the additional support of Tara Winslow, Alphonso was surrounded by a circle of care that brought comfort and peace in his final days.

On Tuesday, May 19, 2026, Alphonso peacefully answered the Master’s call in his sleep. Though his passing leaves an immeasurable void, his memory remains a gentle reminder of a life lived with humility, strength, love, and quiet grace.

Alphonso leaves to cherish his memory his beloved his son, Jon Jackson; his grandchildren, Jonai Jackson, J’On Jackson, De’Mari Jackson, Kamara Jackson, and Villacona Robinson; his sisters, Veronica Jones (Gary), Donna McCruel, Juanetta Johnson (Keith), Tamara Hughes, Maryann Hughes, and Ashley Hughes; his brothers, Adrian Jones (Michele), Alfred Hughes, Richard Hughes, Tony Hughes, and Mark Hughes; fiancée, Robin Kimble and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, relatives, and dear friends.

Alphonso’s life was a reflection of quiet strength, unwavering love, and a calm spirit that left a lasting impression on everyone he encountered. Though he will be deeply missed, his gentle presence, kind heart, and peaceful nature will be forever remembered and cherished.
