Alton (Al) Walkin, our earth angel, ascended to heaven on March 24, 2020.
Al was born in Bronx, New York on July 14, 1960, to Mary Lightbourne and George Mathias Wright. He graduated from Walsh University in 1999 with a Bachelor degree in Business Administration.
Al was a humble and selfless servant to his country and community. He served 15 years in the United States Army as an Army Medic and Drill Sergeant followed by a 15-year career as a civil servant with the Department of Veteran Affairs.
Al subscribed to the tenants of a purpose-driven life:
- You Were Planned for God’s Pleasure
- You Were Formed for God’s Family
- You Were Created to Become Like Christ
- You Were Shaped for Serving God
- You Were Made for a Mission
Al sought to understand and do what God purposed him on earth to do. He was revered by those who knew him for his faith, moral character, integrity, leadership, mentorship, charity, advice and counsel, and companionship. His example as a stalwart servant of the Lord, commitment as a husband, father, and confidant influenced the lives of loved ones and those he came in contact with.
His legacy of humility and purpose lives on through his loving wife and best friend Tanya A. Walkin; his cherished children Serena (Chad) L. Podish, Catherine K. Walkin, and Xavier (Kayla) D. Walkin; grandchildren, Kennedy L. Beavers, Trenton A. Walkin, Layla A. Walkin, Eden P. Walkin, Knox G. Walkin, and Isla M.
