Alvie W. Evans, Jr. was born on September 15, 1927 to the late Alvie W. Evans, Sr. and Geneva (Warfield) Evans, in Vicksburg, Mississippi. He was the oldest of four siblings, Doris Nelson (deceased), Gloria Dillon (deceased), and Rosalee Smith.
Alvie graduated from Bowman High School in Vicksburg, Mississippi. He attended Jackson State University (Jackson College), in Jackson Mississippi, and Fenn College in Cleveland, Ohio. He joined the United States Navy and received an honorable discharge in 1946. He retired from Reliance Electric (Rockwell Automation) after 38 years of service as an electric wireman.
Alvie served as a deacon, an usher, and a commander of the AWANA (Approved Workman Are Not Ashamed) Program at Good Shepherd Baptist Church. He later joined First Baptist Church of South Euclid under Pastor Bruce G. McLaurin.
Alvie loved cooking, singing, painting, martial arts, listening to jazz, Cleveland sports teams, religious programs, traveling (especially cruises), and watching Spanish channels.
Alvie leaves behind to cherish his memory a loving and devoted wife, Katherine, a sister (Rosalee Smith (Aaron), residing in California; children, Diane McCray (Mel), Dwane, Glen, Eric, Alvie III, Trudy Upchurch, a bonus daughter Tonya Bates, a son Dwight that preceded him in death, 27 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, 3 great-great grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
