ALVIN GARRETT WATKINS, JR. 56, made his transition from this earthly life to heaven on Thursday, November 30, 2017.  He was born to Alvin G. and Imogene Watkins on July 3, 1961, in Akron, Ohio.

He attended Akron Public Schools and graduated from John R. Buchtel High School.

Alvin accepted the Lord at an early age and served on the Junior Usher Board at Holy Trinity COGIC.  He was a faithful member of St. James COGIC in Warren,  Ohio for 39 years.  For a period of time he sang in the choir.  During the week he attended Akron First Assembly’s Bible Study Class and he helped with events put on by the church.  He was compassionate, kind, very helpful and loving.  He would always encourage others to trust and believe that God will take care of you.

He was employed by GCA Service Group for 12 years and worked at The Goodyear Research Center as a General Cleaner.

In his leisure time Alvin enjoyed making things thrive.  He took great pride in the garden, plants and flowers he grew in his yard.  He also enjoyed building models of all kinds, painting ceramic figures and cooking.  He loved decorating for the holidays.

Alvin took great pride in his appearance, making sure his shirts, ties, pocket squares, socks and shoes were color-coordinated with his suits.  When he walked in the doors of the church someone would tell him “he owned the room.”  He was GQ ready!

He was preceded in death by his father, Alvin G. Watkins, Sr.  He leaves to cherish his memory his mother, Imogene Watkins of Akron, Ohio; sisters, Lucinda Watkins of Akron, Ohio, Doreen Watkins of Killeen, Texas, Vanessa (Michael) Dority of Akron, Ohio, Darline Bryant of Killeen, Texas; nephews, Jordan Watkins of Killeen, Texas, Elijah Dority of Akron, Ohio; niece, Malea Dority of Akron, Ohio; best friend, Jaime Long of Akron, Ohio; and a host of cousins and many dear friends.
