Alyce May Burston was called to Heaven peacefully on April 16th, 2023. A warrior throughout life, she was 86 years old; born to Sam and Sarah Dates in Vincent, Alabama on December 9th, 1936. Sarah died when Alyce was three and proceeded to be raised by Sam and Ophelia Dates thereafter. Alyce grew up alongside Carolyn Fluker (Curtis) of Childersburg and Jesse Lee Moore of Birmingham. She accepted Christ at a very early age at Coosa Valley Baptist Church in Vincent, Alabama. Alyce went on to graduate from Shelby County Training School in 1954.
Alyce met Bobby Burston and the two wed in 1955; going on to have five children, Kenneth (Kenny), Douglas (Doug), Rosalyn (Ra-Ra), Jerome and Trina (Tarina). Alyce moved to Cleveland in 1963. She was always a hard worker maintaining employment at Eagle Laundry and UH Hospitals.
After retiring in 1993, Alyce spent her time watching CBS Soap Operas, rooting for both the Cleveland Cavaliers and the Cleveland Indians, drinking ice cold Pepsi, sitting on her porch, shopping, and lastly, spoiling her ten grandchildren as much as possible.
Alyce was a kind, caring and giving person who always put the needs of her family before her own. She was a strong woman who faced every challenge in her life with courage and dignity. Alyce was always there for us all, whether we needed help with our homework or just a shoulder to cry on. She was a woman of faith and she instilled in us the importance of family, hard work, and righteousness. She was a source of inspiration to all whose lives she touched.
Alyce is predeceased by her husband, Bobby, parents, Sam, Sarah and Ophelia, son, Jerome and a multitude of other friends and families. She is survived by her children, Kenny (Symira), Doug (Ebony), Ra-Ra, Tarina; her ten grandchildren, Teneshia, Kenya, Ralph (Kesa), Kenneth (Barbara), Chauncey, Douglas, Chastidy, Deaudra, Devin, D’Alyce; her 18 great grandchildren and her 1 great great grandchild.
Alyce was one of the strongest women to ever walk this earth and our family was blessed to have her as the head of the family. We are grateful to know that Alyce is resting peacefully in her final resting place.
