Angela Renae Johnson was born on October 24, 1968, in Akron, Ohio to Forrest Johnson Jr. and Jeannette Johnson. To many, Angela was known for her captivating eyes and long/thick hair. Her first encounter with physical activity were gymnastic lessons.
At an early age, Angela was baptized and accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Savior. She attended Bethel Seventh Day Adventist Church in Akron Ohio. The church provided many activities for the youth, to which she was proudly involved. She was a member and thoroughly enjoyed the singing group, Circle of Love, and a cheerleader for the basketball team. In 1982 and ’83, she was one of four participants of Bethel’s Bible Bowl team, winning the Allegheny West Conference’s Championship on both years.
Affectionately known to her friends as “Angie”, she was the life of the party. Angie enjoyed dressing up, doing make-up and hair, not just for herself, but for others. She also purchased the latest perfumes. She enjoyed hanging out with friends. Most of all (as a child), she found pure joy travelling every summer with her grandparents and siblings to Murfreesboro, Tennessee.
She had the perfect blend of brains and beauty. She was also extremely smart- a wiz in chemistry, biology, and math! In her early teens, she entered 2 science competitions (at a science fair) and won first place, both years. While a student at Buchtel High School, her teachers entrusted her ability to tutor peers because she was that good in those subjects. Appointed by her teacher and Akron City Hospital (now Summa Healthcare System), she had the privilege to watch a cesarean birth delivery in person. She attended University of Akron and majored in Pre-Med. Some years later, she obtained a pharmaceutical tech license in the State of Georgia and Real Estate license in the state of Georgia and Ohio.
Angela’s chemistry talent followed her into the cooking world as she was an excellent cook. She could whip up just about anything and it was always delicious. Her mom says she could always tell when Angela made the Kool-Aid for the house because it was just right! Whether it was her delicious combination of seasonings or her careful Kool-Aid sugar to water ratio, it would always turn out to be the perfect chemistry.
She was preceded in death by grandparents: Jesse D. Lawrence, Rena Mae Lawrence, Gussie Dean Johnson, and Forrest Johnson Sr., and Lela Harris. Beloved brother: Forrest “Anthony” Johnson.
She leaves to cherish her memory, children: Devon Johnson, Dorian Johnson, and David Johnson (Lawrenceville, Georgia); parents: Jeannette Johnson and Forrest (Pamela) Johnson Jr. (Akron, Ohio); sisters: Shawn Smith (Akron, Ohio) and Adrienne Hankton (Cleveland, Ohio); and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
