Ann G. Boone, (86) of 236 Kenwood Ave., departed this earthly home for her eternal home on December 19, 2017 at Akron General Hospital. Ann fondly known as “Be Be” or “Annie Be” was the fourth oldest child born to the union of the late Rev. Jesse and Doretha Gulledge on September 20, 1931 in Memphis, TN.
The family moved to Akron, Ohio in 1944 where Ann completed her elementary & high school education in the Akron Public Schools. She graduated from South High School in January 1950. In the spring of 1952, she met and married Robert I. Boone of Akron, OH and from this union one daughter, Cheryl Jenee was born. Her interest in learning led Ann to the Actual Hammel Business College in Secretarial Science. Ann then attended the University of Akron and in December 1972, she received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education.
Ann taught at Essex Elementary, Central and Garfield High Schools. She retired in 1996 from Case Elementary where she taught 4th grade.
Ann accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized under the pastoral leadership of Rev. J.H. Hall of the United Baptist Church. Her faithful service continued and in 1976, Ann joined the Robert Street Church of God, under the leadership of Pastor Ronald J. Fowler. There she was a member of the Chancel Choir, the Women of Church of God (WCG) Missionary Society, Visitation and Prayer Ministries. Her love though was visiting the seniors in hospitals and in nursing homes.
Her hobbies were traveling, reading, working puzzles (Sudoku), eating out and skating. Her volunteer services included Akron City Hospital, the NAACP, The Women’s Guild of the Akron Urban League, Arlington Housing Options plus Elderly Services (AHOPES) and Youth Excellence Performing Arts Workshops (YEPAW).
Ann is preceded in death by her parents Rev. Jesse and Doretha Gulledge, brother Jesse (Cordelia) Gulledge Jr., and sisters; Elizabeth (Theodore) Dubose, Ora Howard, Leola Cole, Nettie Bayless and Cora Dodds. She leaves to cherish fond and loving memories: her daughter Cheryl Jenee Greene, adopted son, Marcellus Stewart of Columbus, OH, grandchildren George (Tre) Greene of Clarksville, TN, Tiffany Ann Greene of Washington, DC; two great grandchildren, Shilay Behrens and Jenee Greene of Five Forks, SC. sisters; Dorothy Gulledge-Pearson, Margaret Gulledge-Wesley; brother: Joseph W. (Edna) Gulledge, and sister-in-law Cordelia Gulledge and brother-in-law, Ted Dubose; and many loving nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
