Ann Rosetta Pleasant went to be with the Lord in Heaven on Monday, December 5, 2022, at 86 years of age. Ann was born in Akron, Ohio to the late Robert and Mary Purnell on June 4, 1936. She was the second of three children.
Ann attended Akron Public Schools and graduated from Central High School in 1953 going on to attend The Ohio State University. Ann accepted Christ as her personal savior at a young age and began her long-lived singing passion at Mt. Olive Baptist Church where she was a member of the choir, continuing after moving her membership to Mt. Liberty Baptist Church and eventually to Macedonia Baptist Church where she was affectionately referred to as “Ms. Macedonia” or “The Church Lady.” She took pride in her assignment in preparing church resolutions for the members and their families when requested. Ann has been a part of several singing groups including the yearly Gospel Meets Symphony and The Leslie Parker Barnes & Friends Chorus. She was always ready when requested to sing at a funeral with her list of songs that she kept in her wallet. Ann’s passion for helping people was well recognized as she volunteered at the Good Samaritan Shelter and the Summit County Board of Elections voting poles.
Ann met Phillip Pleasant Jr. and they were married on April 22, 1961. To this union, three children were born. Ann worked many years for the Brecksville VA Hospital until she gained employment with Ohio Bell Telephone Company.
Ann was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Norman Purnell.
Her loving memory will be cherished through her devoted husband of 61 years, Phillip Pleasant Jr.; sister, Janet Wilson of Mansfield, OH; brothers-in-law, Abraham (Sadie) Pleasant, and Isaac Pleasant; sisters-in-law, Mary Gardner (Phillip-dec), Maxine (Earl-dec) Pleasant and Martha Gaston; daughters, Cassandra Jones (Raymond) of Detroit, MI and Denise (Douglas) Rookard of Columbus, OH; son Marcus Pleasant; 9 grandchildren, DeJohn (Kari), Darrell, DeAndrea, Chayla, Devon (Cesily), DJuan, Bryien, Azariah and Philip; 11 great grandchildren plus 2 “in the oven” and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
