God reached out and touched a sweet spirit and called her home. Annie B. Miller departed this life at the age of 94, bound for her heavenly home on April 18, 2024, surrounded by her family. Annie was born February 11, 1930, in Attala County, Mississippi to the late Finnis and Hattie Bowie.
At a young age, she learned to farm and garden as she spent many days on her family farm, Old Man Buffin Farm, in Weir Mississippi. Annie was a true scholar and graduated from Weir High School.
Soon after graduating from high school, she was united in holy matrimony to the love of her life, J.B. Miller on June 24, 1950. From this union, three children were born: Douglas, Donnie and Glenn. Her sons were her world, and she took pride in raising them, while chasing after them at various sporting events. Annie made sure her husband and sons were well taken care of. She loved to cook and tend to them, while working at a local cleaners and later working at RCA Rubber Factory.
Annie loved serving the Lord and was a dedicated member of the Prince of Peace Baptist Church, where she served on the Usher Board since the late 1960’s. She loved and adored her family. Being with family was very important to her, and she hosted the first Bowie/Townsend Family reunion in Akron, Ohio in 1978. The Bowie/Townsend Family reunion tradition would rotate between Ohio, Michigan, Mississippi, and Illinois, and carried on for many years. She loved spending time with her best friend and oldest sister, Pauline, and every year she would spend weeks with her in Evanston, Illinois laughing and enjoying each other’s company. Annie also loved shopping and enjoyed watching horses. She also enjoyed talking on the phone daily with her special niece, Alma Jean.
In her free time, Annie enjoyed volunteering at the voting booths during elections. After a brush with cancer, she spent time as a volunteer for the National Cancer Society. She also took much pride in babysitting and caring for her grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Finnis and Hattie Bowie; beloved husband, J.B. Miller, and siblings, Pauline Hemphill, Linnie V. Kennedy, Cleophis Bowie, Adolfis Bowie, Lester Bowie, Saul T. Bowie and Albert Bowie.
Annie leaves to cherish her memory sons, Douglas, Donnie (Justina), and Glenn all of Akron, Ohio; seven grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great granddaughter; sister, Lillian Peake; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
