Anthony O. Gulley entered the world on April 6, 1961, in Akron, Ohio, within a household bursting with love and affection. His educational journey led him through the halls of Akron Public Schools, culminating in his graduation from Akron North High School in 1980. Following his graduation, he enlisted in the US Army, dedicating eight years of service during which he acquired licensure as an optician and a licensed barber. Versatile in his skills, he embraced various occupations, ranging from limousine and truck driving to vending hotdogs, water, and t-shirts, displaying his entrepreneurial spirit that defined him as a true hustler.

An avid enthusiast of photography, Anthony possessed an innate talent for capturing fleeting moments. His journey through life was marked by the loss of loved ones, including his son Traceshun Sibley, daughter Nadia Cuellas, father’s Walter Gulley, and John Mitchell, as well as his grandmother Rosa Lee Jackson and grandfather George Gay. Among those who remained dear to him were special friends the late Richard Johnson and Monty Johnson.

Anthony is survived by his mother, Sandra Horton, brothers Walter (Sarrita) Gulley and Freddie Stephenson, and sisters Tonya Gulley, Mylene and Angie Mitchell. His legacy lives on through his sons Anthony (Charlene) Johnson, Prince-Tyson, Toneo, Tre Gulley, and Taureen Spicer, as well as his daughters Tanisha (Antoine) Sneed, Naomi Davis, Navia (Angel) Quan, Tiona Howard, ToNaya (JaMaris) Pye, 12 grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild, the Woodard family and a multitude of other cherished family members and friends.

Among those also special to him were dear friends Tracy Sibley, Paul Hubbard, Rick McGhee, Tori Hopson, Andre Frazier, Wayne Goodrum, Robin Rice, Curtis Tucker, and many others too numerous to mention individually.

I had a bad feeling in my heart after several attempts to reah Anthony on his phone...We were in the army together and keep in contact through all these years even visiting Akron and him comming to detroit.Going to miss you brother and hopefully the family will call me back...so many unanswered questions #248-202-7260

So very sorry for your loss! I was in the military with Gulley many, many years ago (1984-85). He was a wonderful guy filled with love, joy and laughter and always looking out for all of us. I know he was a wonderful father. God bless you all and may he rest I. Heaven with all the other angels!

To the Gulley family; It is so sad to see someone leave us but God has His plans. Grief is a heavy emotion it leaves an emptiness and a new normal. Love that seems as if it has no where to go but you learn to channel it elsewhere. The ocean waves that will be so strong at times that you’ll feel like you can’t stand. But God will see you all through. He is with you always to the very end of times. The love that was seen today shows the man he was and is all of you his children and relatives. Let the legacy live on. Prayers.

Tony was a one of the greats ,we worked together at summa in the laundry department and we were like family he was a funny guy and he always loved his family I remember he smoked a turkey for us one thanksgiving for us to eat at break 💕RIP my little brother to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord 🙏🏽May God bless your loved ones you were loved and you will be missed

My condolences to the Gulley/Gay family. I grew up across the street from Anthony and his siblings and went to North High School with him. I cannot think of a more genuine person. They always say the Lord takes the good ones first. I will always remember walking through the halls of North High School with his football jersey on. He had a commanding presence when he entered a room you could not help but notice.
