Anthony (Tony) was born on April 7, 1933, in Mt. Hope, Fayette, West Virginia to the late Shirley and Eva Stevens. He attended Dubois High School in Mt. Hope. As a young adult, he worked at the Daniel Boone Hotel.
During his early years, Anthony relocated from Mt. Hope, West Virginia to Cleveland, Ohio, seeking new opportunities and a brighter future. This pivotal move marked the beginning of a new chapter in his life, where he would eventually lay down roots and meet his beloved wife, Alice Stevens.
Together, Anthony and Alice shared a remarkable marriage that spanned 56 years, building a life filled with love and unwavering partnership. Their enduring commitment to one another was a testament to the strength of their bond and the mutual support they offered through life’s many seasons.
Anthony was a member of Trinity Presbyterian Church where he faithfully served over 30 years. He worshiped and served in a great capacity known as St. Mark’s Presbyterian church under the leadership of Pastor Carmen Harwell. He served on several auxiliaries’ boards, served as a Deacon and Usher, demonstrating love, compassion and faithfulness to the ministries.
Faith played a meaningful role in Anthony’s life, and attending church was a cherished tradition for him. He found solace and community within the church’s walls, regularly participating in services and events that strengthened his spiritual foundation. Through his involvement, Anthony cultivated lasting friendships and exemplified values of compassion, kindness, and service to others.
Anthony dedicated much of his professional life to General Motors, where he worked for an impressive 28 years. During his tenure, he became known for his steadfast work ethic, loyalty, and willingness to mentor others, earning the respect and admiration of colleagues throughout the company. His commitment and contributions helped shape not only his own career but also the culture of the workplace he called home.
In addition to his long-standing career at General Motors, Anthony held various other positions throughout his journey. These roles allowed him to further develop his diverse skill set, adapt to new challenges, and engage with a wide range of colleagues. His commitment to excellence was evident regardless of the role, and he approached each opportunity with the same dedication and integrity that defined his time at General Motors.
Personal Life and Passions
Outside of his professional and faith commitments, Anthony found great enjoyment in spending time outdoors, whether tending to his garden or working in the yard.
He loved fishing, bowling with friends from the Thirty Club, and traveling with his beloved wife Alice, friends and family. Their travel included Europe, Spain, Hawaii, Aruba, Alaska, and the Caribbean islands. Stateside travel was done often, visiting family members.
He was known for his generosity and open-hearted spirit, always eager to lend a helping hand. He had a keen appreciation for music and often filled his home with the sounds of his favorite tunes, creating a joyful and uplifting atmosphere for family and friends.
Anthony also had a passion for good food and cherished the opportunity to share home-cooked meals, lighting up the grill with that good old time, downhome BBQ. He delighted in trying new recipes. His zest for life, love of simple pleasures, and unwavering dedication to those he cared about remain an enduring inspiration to all who knew him.
Family and Relationships
Anthony was a devoted family man whose greatest joys stemmed from helping and sharing with his family. Together with Alice, he built a nurturing and supportive home, filled with laughter, and enduring love.
