Anthony McCoy best known as “McCoy or Tyrone,” was born February 3, 1970, in Cleveland, OH to William and Beverly McCoy, who both preceded him in death.
Anthony McCoy was the first born and only son of four children born to this union. He was the “Big Brother,” that was true to his role. He loved to irritate and aggravate his sisters but when they needed him, he was there. Anthony was a man who took pride in how he presented himself daily. Anthony was known to have an incredible smile, a generous heart and was loyal to his family and friends. He was always willing to extend himself to help others if he could. Anthony, who has had many life experiences, had no problem sharing those life experiences. By telling stories or giving information and opinions, even when it wasn’t even asked. This was a trait that he shared with his little brother, Shauntee McCoy (deceased) who passed away on his birthday in 2023. Through many tests, trials, and even struggles, Anthony never lost what was most important to him and that was family.
Anthony McCoy was a man that did not like to settle in one place for too long. Not until he found his home in Louisville, Kentucky where he met a host of friends that helped him through some difficult periods in his life. For him Louisville was middle ground, he would always say “Sis, I am at place where if my family needs me no matter in Cleveland or Chattanooga, he was never too far to make a trip.”
In 2021, Anthony McCoy was diagnosed with Cancer (Lymphoma) that was attacking his spine. However, being who he was he was determined to go through his sickness on his own. Shortly after suffering two strokes, he called his sisters in 2022. Realizing the severity of his condition, they told him he needed to come home to his family. In June of the same year, his sisters drove to Kentucky and brought him back to Cleveland, OH where he underwent treatment at Cleveland Clinic. Although he was sick in his body, he could not settle in his spirit to let the disease consume his life. While undergoing chemotherapy treatment, he continued to work various jobs. He was always determined to keep money in his pocket. He believed a man should work for what they wanted.
Anthony goal was to return to Louisville, KY in Nov 2023, where he felt he could have some since of normalcy. Unfortunately, his health began to deteriorate, and he was hospitalized from November 2023 until his untimely death. Regrettably, the Cancer caused him an unforeseen illness that paralyzed him from the waist down and he was unable to walk. Even though he experienced being in and out of rehabilitation facilities his spirit remained high. He believed in the Power of Prayer and would ask for it through visits or phone calls. In the last stages of his life, his faith had increased in God, and he believed wholeheartedly God was going to allow him to walk again. In the beginning of May 2024 his sister visited him, and he woke up in tears asking if he was awake, and he began to cry and said “Sis, I can walk, I can WALK,” although physically he could not walk. God had showed him being made WHOLE. On May 12, 2024, God called Anthony home and granted him peace in spirit and rest in his body.
Anthony leaves to mourn him, his children Beverly McCoy (his mother’s name sake), Shaqualm McCoy (his twin), his sisters, Deborah McCoy, Montina Hampton (Morris, deceased), Roszella McCoy-Parrish (James), Neishelle Mitchell, and Lashelle Mitchell, his Aunt Pastor Joanne Walker (whom he loved deeply), and a host of nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends.
