Antoinette Y. Gindraw was born on June 19, 1939, in Tampa, Florida, Antoinette moved to Akron, Ohio with her parents. She was the oldest of four children. She began her education at Spicer Elementary School. After receiving her certificate from Spicer, June 13, 1952, Tony, as she was known by her family and friends, went on to Central High. Along her journey, she developed the desire to help others. After completing high school on June 7, 1956, she chose to further her education by entering the School of Nursing at Akron University on September 17, 1956. Without hesitation, she received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing on June 12, 1961.
After college, she moved to our nation’s capital, Washington, D.C. where doors began to open for her. She worked at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital excelling in an administrative position. She made many new friendships and decided to stay in D.C. purchasing a home and one luxury Cadillac after another. She loved to bowl and joined a team. She also enjoyed giving. As a result, she gave to more organizations than she was a member of. She was definitely her “own woman” for this reason, she did what she wanted, and when she wanted. She traveled extensively from Florida to Alaska, Maine to California, Africa, the Caribbean, Europe, and South America. She loved meeting new people. She lived in Washington, D. C. for over sixty years until she became very ill and moved back to Ohio to be with family. She was called home to live with our Lord and Savior Monday, October 19, 2020.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank W. and Elizabeth R. Gindraw, Sr.; brothers, Eric Keith Gindraw and Donald E. Gindraw.
She leaves to cherish her memory brother, Frank W. (Claudia-Sis.) Gindraw, Jr.; nieces, Teeha (Trai) Folk, Tisha Gindraw, and Synora (Allen) Parker; nephews, Frank W. (Patty) Gindraw III and Eric D. Willis; special friends, Opal (Carl) Crawford, Richard Jackson, and JoAnn-Sis. Taylor and many, many friends and associates.
