Arthur Edward Woods was born on August 21, 1943, in Cleveland, Ohio, to the late Lucius and Rachel Woods. He was educated in the Cleveland Public School System, where he attended and graduated.

At an early age, Arthur accepted Christ and joined Gethsemane Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Reverend Benjamin Colvin. He was a faithful member who regularly attended Sunday School and remained grounded in his faith throughout his life.

Arthur dedicated many years of service to MetroHealth Medical Center, where he worked in the laundry department until his retirement. He was known as a hardworking and efficient employee who took pride in his work.

Arthur had a warm and welcoming spirit and never met a stranger. He was friendly, kind, and well-respected within his community, always carrying himself as a good neighbor. He had a deep love for reading, especially the Holy Bible, and was an avid reader of books and local newspapers. Arthur stayed well-informed on current events and political news and took great pride in exercising his right to vote. He also enjoyed spending time with family, especially playing cards and sharing laughter.

Arthur honorably served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. His service was recognized with prestigious honors, including the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart.

He was especially grateful for the care and companionship shown by his neighbor, who thoughtfully took him on outings such as shopping trips, baseball games, visits to the YMCA, and the Cleveland Air Show. Arthur also deeply appreciated the daily phone calls and visits from his sister, Bernice Lovejoy, who lived out of town.

Arthur transitioned from this life on May 24, 2026, following a brief illness. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings Lucius Woods Jr., Donald Woods, Ronald Woods, Leon Gregory Woods, and Inez Woods Willis.

He leaves to cherish his memory his loving siblings: Thomas Woods, Elizabeth Woods Macklin, and Bernice Woods Lovejoy; along with a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends across various locations.

Arthur’s presence, warmth, and unwavering love and dedication to his family will be deeply missed. He was thoughtful and caring, often calling or sending cards to remember birthdays and holidays. Though he was dearly loved by his family, they find comfort in knowing that God loved him best.
