Arthur Paul Bolden was a man whose life was defined by the quiet strength of service, the pursuit of wisdom, and an unwavering devotion to the people he loved. Arthur was born on April 12, 1956, in Akron, Ohio, to Arthur and Elizabeth Bolden. On May 1, 2026, he peacefully passed away in his home, surrounded by the warmth and love of his children and grandchildren.
A 1975 graduate of Central Hower High School, Arthur was a lifelong learner. He was often found with a book in his hands, exploring diverse subjects to expand his mind. He didn’t just gather knowledge for himself; he was a natural mentor who took great joy in instilling that wisdom into the lives of others, believing that a mind expanded could never return to its original dimensions.
Arthur’s intellect was matched only by his heart for his community. In 1999, his dedication was professionally recognized when he was presented with a Business and Professional Award from the brothers of Alpha Phi Alpha. Further embodying the ideals of leadership and service, Arthur was a substantial donor to the Martin Luther King Jr. Scholarship Fund for the 2000-2001 year. Through his financial support, he helped young scholars pursue their own education, directly investing in the dream of the late Dr. King.
On August 15, 1992, Arthur was joined in holy matrimony to his soulmate, Patricia Diane Bolden. Together, they built a life centered on family and adventure. Their travels took them across the country, leading to remarkable encounters—most notably on January 21, 2013, when Arthur was personally invited to attend the second inauguration of Barack Obama. It was a moment of immense pride, witnessing history firsthand during that historic public ceremony.
Arthur saw the world through a unique lens, literally and figuratively. As a gifted photographer, he spent over three decades capturing the soul of his community. His ability to freeze life’s most beautiful moments earned him a prestigious 30-year service award, leaving behind a visual legacy for countless families. While his days were often spent behind a camera, his nights were dedicated to the vulnerable. For over 28 years, Arthur worked as an STNA at Wyant Woods Care Center. As a “gentle giant” on the overnight shift, he provided dignity and care to others’ loved ones with a tenderness that defined his character.
His greatest act of devotion, however, was the care he provided to his beloved Patricia until her passing on May 16, 2024. Even in his grief, Arthur remained a pillar of strength and compassion for his family.
Arthur was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Elizabeth; his wife, Patricia Diane Bolden; and his granddaughter, Sharae Ramsey.
His legacy of love and intellect is carried on by his children: daughters Trina Bowman and Crystal (Anthony) Ramsey-Reaves; and sons Anthony (Tomoah) Ramsey, Eugene Ramsey, and Delricko Ramsey. He also leaves behind 10 grandchildren: Jeremiah, Joshua, Sy’erra, Larry, Marquice, Crystin, Shayron, Michala, Mia, and Anthony II; as well as 30 great-grandchildren. His memory will be cherished by his cousins Vernon, Vicky, and Michael; his “inner circle” of friends, Howard, Aaron (Champ), and Deck; and a vast host of relatives and associates.
Arthur Paul Bolden lived with purpose, served with grace, and loved without limit. He has now laid down his camera and his books, entering a well-deserved rest.
