Augustine Hill began her life journey on January 5, 1931 in Batesville, Mississippi. She was the daughter of the late Pearl Visor. Augustine spent her childhood in Batesville where she attended grade school and was a graduate of Okolana Junior College, May 31, 1948. In the summer of 1951, she married Elbert Hill Sr. and they relocated to Cleveland Ohio. Two sons were born to their union, Elbert Jr., and Keith L. In 1960 Augustine and Elbert Sr. welcomed their niece, Emerald Hill, into their home to raise.
Augustine was a member of Mt. Sinai-Friendship United presently under the leadership of Dr. C. Jay Matthews I. She was a very faithful and devoted member for 70 years serving on the usher and missionary boards in addition to various volunteer positions. Most notably, she was responsible for signing up more than 100 of her coworkers at CPI (Cleveland Psychiatric Institution) to become credit union members.
Augustine served as secretary of the Board of Directors during the period when Mt. Sinai Credit Union transitioned to serving all of Cuyahoga County and became Faith Community United Credit. There was no question about her love for Christ and dedication to being a servant. Accepting Christ was the best decision she could have made. Throughout her journey, she let her light shine before men so that they would see her good works and glorify the father in heaven. (Matt 5:16)
Augustine was employed at Fairhill Mental Health Hospital where she retired after 30 years of service. She was a loyal and dependable employee throughout her tenure.
A woman of tall stature, she was always “model ready” with her unique fashions. Those who knew her could testify to her classy style. She loved sewing, gardening and yard work. Her yard was impeccable.
A mother’s love is never lost. Augustine passed away peaceably in her home on June 9, 2022. She leaves to cherish her memory, two sons, Elbert Hill Jr. (Shirley) Shelby N.C., Keith L. Hill, Cleveland, OH; niece, Emerald Wilson (Bobby) Alameda, CA); Grandchildren, Tanya Hill-Stuckey (Ricky) Myrtle Beach, NC, Gwendolyn O. Hill and Yolanda N. Hill, Shelby, NC; Andre J. Hill, Pittsburgh, PA; Aaron D. Hill (Toymika), 15 great-grandchildren, 9 great-great grandchildren, all residing in Shelby, NC; favorite cousins, Jane Hyde of Bedford Heights, OH; Tyrone McQueen, St Louis, MO; Gilbert Vaughan, Las Vegas, NV; and her dearest and loyal friend of many years, Ms. Everlean Myhand, Warrensville Heights, OH; and a host of nieces, nephews, family members and friends.
