Barbara “Amy” Elaine Mardio peacefully transitioned to be with the Lord on March 15, 2025, surrounded by her loved ones.
Barbara “Amy” Elaine Mardio, née Shirley, was born on June 14, 1947, in Glasgow District in the Parish of St. Ann, Jamaica, to Ivy Bolt and Lindo Shirley, both of whom predeceased her. During her early childhood in Jamaica, she attended Linton Park Primary School and later went on to attend Retirement Primary School. As a young woman, she moved to Kingston in search of job opportunities. It was in Kingston where she began her career and started her family. Barbara was adventurous, fun-loving, and the life of the party. This is also where her love for fashion began. She adored dressing up, and her impeccable sense of style remained with her throughout her life.
In 1989, Barbara emigrated to the United States, settling in New York City, where she lived for many years before relocating to Ohio in 2008, where she continued to live, surrounded by family and friends.
Barbara was a devout Christian and a hardworking woman, dedicating the majority of her career to the healthcare field, where she cared for and impacted many. Outside of work, Barbara enjoyed simple pleasures that brought her joy—watching her daily soap operas, cooking, baking, and listening to music. Her radio was always tuned to her favorite gospel station, reflecting her deep faith and love for music. She was known for her love of glamour, from her nails and rings to her lipstick, and she was always stylish in every way. She also adored her beloved fish, which brought her comfort and peace.
Barbara was kind, lively, and feisty, always willing to go out of her way to help others. Her generosity and loving spirit left a lasting impact on all who knew her. She spent her life giving to others and creating an impact that extended beyond her immediate family.
Barbara was a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend who was known for her warm heart, boundless generosity, and unshakeable faith. Her laughter, kindness, and spirit of hospitality will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
She was predeceased by her son, Warren Clarke, and her daughter, Maureen Clarke. She is survived by her daughters, Donna Brown (Jamaica), Julian “Jilly” Lee (Ohio), Elaine Campbell (Ohio), and Dawn Campbell (Ohio); her grandchildren, Imani Brown (Jamaica), Laurene Brown (Jamaica), Erica Brown (Jamaica), Courtni Gordon (Ohio), Jordan Lee (Ohio), Saleema Crutchley (Ohio), Parnell Bramwell Jr. (Ohio), and Radine Robinson (Ohio); her great-grandchildren, Britania (Florida), Bereek (Jamaica), Tareek (Jamaica), Trechelle (Jamaica), Kashane (Jamaica), Tashania (Jamaica), Elijah (Ohio), Hope (Ohio), and Tristen (Ohio); her brothers, Roy Shirley (Jamaica) and Melton Shirley (Jamaica); her sisters, Lauralynn “Ruth” Chevannes (Jamaica), Yvonne Moss (Georgia), and Annette Saracuse (Canada); her sons-in-law, Trevor Brown (Jamaica), Michael Lee (Ohio), and Jermaine Fannin (Ohio); her nieces and nephews,
Peaches Shirley (Jamaica), Paul and Peter Shirley (NY), Marvia, Robert, Tremaine, and Arlene Chevannes (Jamaica), Richard “Mark” Grant (Jamaica), and Desmond Shirley (Jamaica); a host of cousins; her Goddaughter, Deneca (Jamaica); and special friends, Earleen Smalls (New York), Shirley Parker (Ohio), Jimmy (Ohio), and Leonie McDonald (Ohio), along with other family and friends, and, of course, her beloved fish.
Barbara’s memory will live on in the hearts of her loved ones, and her legacy of love, kindness, and faith will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know her.
