Barbara Laverne Bright-Coiner was born and welcomed on Valentines Day February 14, 1964 in Suwanee, Tennessee to parents Bobby Dean & Constance Bright. Barbara accepted Christ and was baptized at a very young age. “Barb”, “Babsie” or “Babbs” as she was affectionately known to those who knew and loved her moved to Cleveland, Ohio in 1965 & was educated in the Cleveland Public School system and graduated from John Hay High School in 1982 at the top of her class. She effortlessly received numerous academic awards and accolades throughout her school years including Honor Roll, National Honor Society, Merit Roll, State Spelling Bee Contestant, Service, and Perfect Attendance. Barbara was not only very intelligent and well spoken, she also spoke fluent French. Her tall and slim model-like stature, frame and beauty was very apparent. Barbara took classes at Cuyahoga Community College in Cleveland, Ohio while still in high school. She also modeled and later graduated from ICM Business School. She became a successful businesswoman for many years working in various management and supervisory positions. She held various positions from managing Security Firms to working with school children at Canterbury Elementary School in her later years which she loved so much. Barb had a special way with children who needed extra care or attention. In addition to tutoring the children, Barb showed them unconditional love. As an adult she was also a strong believer in the Lord and devoted her life to Christ often volunteering at her church home First Baptist of Greater Cleveland where she was loved by her Pastors and fellow parishioners. Barbara met and married John R. Coiner Sr. and through that marriage they welcomed son Thaddeus James Coiner. Throughout his childhood he lovingly recalls his mother as being a very kindhearted, loving, caring, and giving person who always built a connection with her community and most of all, she took really good care of her beloved Son Thaddeus Coiner. Throughout his entire life, Barb was a very dedicated, hardworking and wonderful mother.
Barb was very well rounded culturally and spiritually. She was very versatile & enjoyed different genres of music and loved dancing. In her later years while battling cancer, she would even have what she called “Dance Parties” with her son Thaddeus to keep her mood upbeat. They often went to many restaurants and traveled; however, Barb certainly knew her way around the kitchen & one of signatures was her famous Green Bean Casserole. Everyone knew since she was a little girl that Barb loved to eat and as she became a teen, loved to cook, but she stayed slim and trim.
Her beautiful spirit will never be forgotten. Until the very end, Barb kept hope and strength towards her life and never gave up on fighting cancer. Barb has had an impact on many people’s lives throughout her 60 years on this earth. Her quick wit and ability to find the humor and bright side of things left those who encountered her with encouragement.
