Barry Wayne Colbert, Sr., 63, of Akron Ohio was born in Anniston, Alabama on May 23, 1957, to the late Laura (Gale) Wilson and Silas Colbert, Sr. As a young child, he relocated to Cleveland and eventually to Akron. Barry was an avid member of the Boy Scouts and eventually became a Boy Scout Troop leader and mentor to the neighborhood children. He enjoyed Martial Arts and construction. Barry Attended Central-Hower High School for woodshop and graduated from North High school in 1975, where he participated in the Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) vocational.
Barry spent numerous years working as a Batchman, doing factory work at Gibson-Homan as well as Tremco. He worked with various sealants, coatings, and a variety of polymers. He devoted his time to caring for his aging mother and eventually retired in 2011. He was then able to spend more time with family, fishing, camping- when he could, working on vehicles, and tending to his yard.
Barry first met Wanda Shoates, his wife-to-be, through family members when they were just children. As teenagers and young adults, Barry and Wanda dated for a total of 6 years, during which, he joined the Navy. In 1978, he was honorably discharged and went on to spend time in the Naval Reserves. Barry decided to marry the love of his life, Wanda in 1981. They would have celebrated their 39th anniversary on June 20, 2020.
Barry will finally be reunited with his mother, Laura (Gale) Wilson father Silas Colbert Sr.; loving mother -in-Law, Lillie Shoates; brothers, Michael Underwood, and Silas Colbert Jr.
His family who remains to carry on his legacy include his Loving wife, Wanda (Shoates) Colbert; children, Barry (Alishia) Colbert, Jr., Stephanie Knox, Whitney Colbert, Crystal Colbert; father-In-Law, Charlie Shoates, Jr., Barry’s sibling include, sister-in-Law, Mary Underwood, sisters, Jane Agnew, Joan Colbert, Angela Cross; brothers, Craig (Patricia) Colbert and Glen (Chrissy) Colbert. Barry has nine grandchildren by the names of Zoë, Ronin, Neal, Alanna, Gabriel, Sophia, Jordyn, Kameryn, and Taylor: also, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles, honorary children, and friends.
