Baxter Jones passed away on Saturday, January 20, 2018, at Akron General Hospital, surrounded by loved ones. Born in Detroit, Michigan to Monroe and Annie Jones, Baxter was the sixth child in a large family.
As a child, Baxter was the ultimate prankster. He was energetic and already showing signs of the athleticism that would define his teen years. He grew into an awesome basketball player and a prominent member of the Windham Bombers Basketball team. George Beldin, Sports reporter and historian of Windham athletics states “Baxter was an incredible athlete and our only two-time all-stater.” After graduation, Baxter attended the University of Kansas on a sports scholarship and later lived in San Bernardino, California and Alamogordo, New Mexico before returning to Ohio several years ago.
Baxter was preceded in death by his father, Monroe Jones, Sr., mother Annie Jones and brother, Monroe Jones, Jr.
Baxter leaves to mourn his passing; son, Baxter Wicker of family of South Carolina; daughter, Janae Allen and family of San Bernardino, California; son Baxter T. Jones (Bj); daughters, Grace and Faith Jones; brother, Timothy Jones and sisters, Claudia Jones, Vernice Jones, Gwen Jones, Valerie Likely, all of Akron, OH and Detra Willis of Houston, Texas, and special granddaughter, Nyla.
