Bennie Ree Pritchett transitioned peacefully at her home in Euclid, Ohio on March 30, 2023 surrounded by her Loving Family.
Bennie was the baby of eleven children born on February 14, 1938 to the late Nettie and Pink McVay. Bennie received her education at Kinterbish Jr. High school in Sumter County Alabama until the 10th grade. Once she left school, she enjoyed assisting her mom and older siblings with home and babysitting duties. At an early age she confessed to Christ and was baptized at Mount Pleasant Baptist Church in Cuba, Alabama.
Bennie first moved north in the early 60s in search of better employment opportunities. She returned to Cuba, Alabama for a few years to care for her aging Mother until her death. She returned to the north once again; during her time in Queens, New York before moving to Cleveland, Ohio where she worked as a Private Caretaker and Certified Group Home Employee (Ohio Boys Town) she attended many Baptist Churches.
Bennie was a wonderful Mother, Grandmother (Gan-Gan), and Great-Grandmother. She played a significant role in raising most of her grandchildren. She enjoyed dropping off grandkids at school or picking them up and stopping for snacks.
Bennie loved her family and was happiest when they surrounded her. She enjoyed traveling back to Cuba, Alabama to spend time with family and friends and to enjoy that good ole’ Southern revival until her health prohibited her from making those annual trips. On several occasions, she had her little poodle “Poochie” accompanying her on those road trips as she was listening to the Gospel or Blues.
Bennie was in her element when she was spending time in the kitchen preparing large meals and baking. She was a great cook, everyone loved eating what she prepared. Some of her favorite desserts were sweet potato pies, banana pudding, chocolate, caramel, and coconut cakes for her family and friends to enjoy. She believed in preparing food for her family and friends in times of need or feeding anyone that was hungry.
Bennie was also a keeper of many things; she would hold onto newspaper articles, obituaries, gift bags and pretty bows. She was the queen of “reuse and recycle” before it became popular. She was also savvy scrolling on her tablet.
Bennie was preceded in death by her Husband (Charles), Parents (Nettie & Pink), 2 Children (James & Marilyn), 3 Grandchildren (Chad, Clyde, Myesha) and 10 siblings (Marie, Ben, Mandell, Daisy, Manual, Roberta, Willie, Maggie, Danial, Grady). Those left to cherish her memories are 6 Children: Willie (Gloria) of Cuba, Alabama, Eddie, and Bonita (Michael) both of Cleveland, Ohio, Theodis (Cherlyn) of Tuscaloosa, Alabama, Michelle and Belinda (Opher) both of Euclid, Ohio. 16 Grandchildren; Roderick (Kimberly), Rodrigus, Shekina (Jules), Demetrice, Lance, Darleen, Tamika (Jamar), LaCrisha, Laquisha (Dean), Shaquita, Eddie, James, Christine, Christian, Mark, Timothy; 30 Great Grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
