THE LIFE & LEGACY OF
Bertha Ann
STONE
Bertha Ann Stone, affectionately known as Bert, was born on December 23, 1955, in Dadeville, Alabama, to the late Grady and Helen (Morgan) Stone. She attended Council City Schools and then transferred to Dadeville High School until 1974. From an early age, Bert’s compassionate heart shone through as she began working in private duty nursing as a teenager. She carried that nurturing spirit throughout her life, always confessing her love 9 Christ in her actions and her unwavering kindness toward others.
In 1978, Bert made the courageous decision to relocate to Cleveland, Ohio, with her daughter Shak’hunda by her side. There, she continued to build a life grounded in faith, family, and hard work. In 2001, she embarked on a career in hospitality at the Cleveland Renaissance Hotel, where her warm personality and work ethic left a lasting impression until her retirement in 2017.
Bert had a zest for life that lit up every room. She loved to dance and would often be found moving to her favorite songs, whether at a family gathering or just in her kitchen. Music was her joy, and she could always set the mood with the perfect song. She was a jokester and the life of the party, making everyone around her feel special with her humor and lively spirit. Her greatest joy was hosting Thanksgiving dinner, gathering her children and grandchildren to create cherished memories filled with love and laughter. She celebrated every holiday with enthusiasm, ensuring every occasion was filled with warmth.
