Bertha Mae Brown was born on March 20, 1936 in Liberty, Mississippi to her loving parents John and Lottie Brown. She was preceded in death by her parents. Even though she was an only child Betty Grooms her best friend was like a sister to her and also preceded her in death. Bertha attended Liberty Rosenwald School in Amite County where she graduated valedictorian. Then she attended Alcorn A & M College earning her Bachelor of Science degree in Business Education. She remained a member of the Cleveland local chapter of Alcorn Alumni Association until she passed. Bertha held the positions of president and secretary.
Bertha accepted Christ at an early age at Liberty Baptist Church under Rev. Tobias. After relocating to Cleveland, Ohio, she became a member of Everlasting Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Moses Leroy Smith. While attending Everlasting Baptist church she belonged to several organizations and held various positions such as Usher Board member, Chairman of the Trustees, Kitchen and Decorating Committee, Seniors in Touch and Circle of Love.
Bertha started her career for a short time at City Hospital. She then went on to work for the United States Postal Service for over 30 years ending her career as a Supervisor of mail processing.
Bertha was an avid member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. where she held positions of Public Relations Secretary, Chaplin and member of the Stork Nest Committee.
Bertha had a loving, kind and generous spirit and affectionately earned
the nickname GiGi by her great grandchildren.
Bertha will always remain in our hearts and will be truly missed. She leaves to cherish her precious memories two sons, Anthony and Gary, wife Wendy, three grandchildren, Johnathan, Garrett, wife Sarita, and Erin, wife Ashton, and six great grandchildren, Anthony, Laila, Selena, Tristan, Hallie and Girard and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and church members.
