Bessie La’-Mour Hill-Stover aged 70, passed away peacefully on March 25, 2018, at Heather Knoll Nursing and Rehabilitation. Bessie was born in Akron, OH on February 13, 1948. She was the eldest of the late Obadiah and Alean Hill’s three daughters.
Bessie graduated from Buchtel High School and went on to earn her Bachelor’s in Education from Akron University in 1971. Upon graduation, Bessie took a job in Monrovia, Liberia (West Africa) as an English teacher. In 1973 she returned to Akron and began teaching science and math for Akron Public Schools. Much of her teaching career was spent at Barrett Elementary School, Essex Elementary School, and at Goodyear Middle School. Bessie thoroughly enjoyed both learning and teaching. She remained an Akron Public School teacher for 40 years until her retirement in 2010.
She was an avid reader, in her spare time you could find her engulfed in a good book. She also liked expressing herself creatively and would often crochet or sew items for family members. She was very stylish and loved shopping for the latest fashions.
Bessie was a loving mother, grandmother, aunt, great-aunt, and friend. She was preceded in death by sister Tempie Hill. Left to cherish the memories of Bessie are her husband Terry Stover; daughter Teidra Stover; grandchildren, Ameina, Jeffrey, and Leilah all of Akron, OH; sister Adrienne (Albert) McKee of Georgianna, AL; nieces Alean (Antonio) Buchanan of Woodbridge, VA and Avis McKee of Chattanooga, TN; nephew Aaron McKee of Georgianna, AL; great nieces Syndi McKee of Georgianna, AL, Patricia (Darrell) Robinson of Woodbridge, VA, Tai Hanson of Los Angeles, CA, Lauryn Buchanan of Norfolk, VA; great nephews Zane Lewis of Akron, OH, Alex Chirwa of Woodbridge, VA, Timothy Hanson of Hialeah, FL, Brandon Buchanan of Woodbridge, VA and many other relatives; dear friend Thelma Scott of Akron, OH, Jeffrey Lewis and Jeffrey Williams all of Akron, OH, and a host of friends and family.
