Celebrating the Life of Betty Eva Johnson Williams
Betty Eva Johnson Williams was called from labor to glory on March 25, 2026. A woman of deep faith, vibrant song, and unwavering devotion to her family, she leaves behind a legacy of grace and service.
Early Life and Education
Born on February 23, 1936, in Chattanooga, Tennessee, Betty was the eldest of four children born to Walter and Pauline Johnson. At the age of 11, she moved with her family to Cleveland, Ohio, where she would spend the remainder of her life. A proud graduate of the Cleveland Public School system, she earned her diploma from John Hay High School in 1954.
A Life of Service and Career
Betty dedicated many years of professional service to her community. Her early career included positions at Campus Drug Store and Mt. Sinai Hospital. She eventually joined the Cleveland Municipal School District, where she served with distinction as an Administrative Assistant until her retirement in 1994.
Faith and Fellowship
A woman of God, Betty’s spiritual journey began at Liberty Hill Baptist Church before she later joined Mt. Haven Missionary Baptist Church. Her beautiful soprano voice was a gift she shared generously, singing in her church choir and as a member of the Cleveland Mass Choir. It was not uncommon for her to spontaneously break out in song, filling the world around her with music.
Interests and Family
Beyond her professional and spiritual life, Betty was a woman of many passions. She was an avid traveler who fulfilled a dream of visiting China. At home, she found joy in the simple beauties of life: roller skating and meticulously tending to her flowers both inside and outside her house.
In 1958, she was united in holy matrimony to Douglas Williams. To this union, three children were born: Douglas Charles (Chuck), Paula Ann, and Sakina Malik.
