Betty Jackson was born in Newborn, Alabama to the late Cullip Sr. and Druella Washington. Betty was 12 years old when the Washington family moved to Cleveland, Ohio in 1954. She had a beautiful smile that lights up a room. Betty had a great sense of humor, and she told great stories. She was also known as “Let” or “Letty Mae” to her close family members. Betty enjoyed reading and listening to the Bible. She was a member of Greater Peace Missionary Baptist Church. She worked for over 30 years in the steel plant industry. She retired from ArcelorMittal, now known as Cleveland-Cliffs. Betty developed bonds and close relationships with some of her co-workers that meant the world to her. She loved being around her family and she loved her husband, Ernest Jackson dearly. She loved playing cards with her daughters. Sevens, Skippo, and Solitaire were her favorite card games. She enjoyed watching classic and western movies. Betty enjoyed playing slot machines in various casinos. Betty was a great cook; everyone who knew her know she can cook someone under the table
Mama/grandma Betty Marie Jackson was the center piece of our family. She was all our go to person, the one who always had your backs no matter what. She would tell us off when you needed it. She was our world, while we as a family grieve, let us take the time to embrace the beautiful woman she was and always will be. Let us cherish the memories we shared, the bomb food she made, and all the love she gave. Mama Betty/Grandma Betty Rest in Peace.
Betty leaves to cherish her memory, her husband of over 50 years Ernest Jackson; six children, Mary Goodgame (Eddie), Judge Steward, Berlinda Fuller (Leonard), JoAnne Steward, Yvonne Steward, Sharita Jackson; two sisters, Sandra Washington, Joan Briggs (Ronald); brother Will Washington; 18 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; 5 children by marriage, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Betty was preceded in death by her son, James Steward Sr.; grandson, James Jr.; four sisters, Willie V. Banks, Cornelia Banks, Matilda Edwards, Fannie Mae Wiley; four brothers, Cullip Washington Jr., Baker Washington, James Robert Washington, and Roy Washington.
