Betty Jean Candis was born on December 19th, 1931 to Marie and Carl Vernon Stewart and grew up in Cleveland, Ohio. At an early age, she accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior and lived 87 years devoted to her faith and her family.
She graduated from St. Edwards Catholic High School in 1949. Thereafter, she was blessed with her one and only child, Brenda Stewart Henry whom she loved and cherished. In 1955, she married her beloved husband, Walter Lee Candis (deceased) and lived on Cleveland’s East-Side fostering a community of friends and family through love and support.
She joined the work-force as a machine operator at Industrial Wire, Inc. The commitment, reliability, and thoroughness that she demonstrated were reasons she received a “fastest worker” award for her agile and accelerated production. Her work timeline ended when she happily retired from TRW in the early 1990s. Following retirement, she actively volunteered as a member of the Greater Christian Tabernacle food pantry under the leadership of Pastor Tossie Wiley. She enjoyed helping people and working as a servant for the Lord. In her spare time, she also enjoyed “junkin” a term created to describe their enjoyment of attending yard sales every weekend.
Betty Jean Candis gained her heavenly wings the morning of January 25th, 2019. On the morning that she transitioned home to be with the Lord, she was surrounded by her daughter and son-in-law, Dwight.
She leaves to cherish her beloved daughter Brenda (Dwight), sister Elaine Chatman. Her grandchildren, Sicily (Andre), Jessica, Katrenia (Jermaine); great-grandchildren Sasha, Nassir, Navil, and Aaliyah. Sisters-in-law, Ann Dudley, Louise McGee, Mary Lee Candis; blended family members Bobby Young, Ethel Davis, London Burnett. And a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends.
She loved you all dearly.
