Betty Jean Simpson was born November 15, 1942 in Birmingham, Alabama to the late Nathion Jones and Ollie Mae Hall. Betty was the eldest of 2 children.
Betty graduated from John Hay High School in Cleveland, Ohio.
Betty met Larry Evans Simpson Sr. and they were married on June 22, 1963 in Cleveland, Ohio. From this union four boys were born, Larry Jr. (Deceased), David, Nathan and William.
Betty accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age. She was a faithful member of Affinity Baptist Church, where she enjoyed singing praises to the Lord as a member of the choir.
Betty was employed with various employers always exceeding their expectations. She worked at the Cleveland Board of Education and National City Bank located in downtown Cleveland. She left the bank to pursue a career at “What on Earth Catalog”, where she became an office manager. Betty enjoyed the people she worked with and especially enjoyed working for the owner Jared Florian. She and Jared formed a lifelong friendship. Betty retired from “What’s on Earth” after 20 years of service.
Betty was a hard worker and enjoyed singing, games shows, bingo and talking on the phone. She would call family and friends on their birthdays and sing a song that would brighten your day. She was a spiritual person who believed in family. After her husband’s untimely death, Betty raised four boys who became respectful, strong, and successful men. She was a strong disciplinarian with a heart of gold.
On January 30, 2020, after a battle with cancer the Lord Jesus Christ called Betty, our mother, grandmother, sister and friend home to the place he had prepared for her.
Betty is survived by her cherished sons David Simpson Sr. (Clancy), Nathan Simpson (Dianna), and William Simpson; her loving Brother Nathion Jones (Nina), her beloved, grandchildren David Simpson Jr., Christopher Simpson, Ryan Simpson, Shaunice Simpson, Alexis Simpson, and Larry Simpson III; A host of nieces, nephews, and other cherished relatives and friends. Her granddaughter Danielle Simpson preceded her in death.
