Betty Sims was born June 14, 1944, in Tuskegee, AL. She was one of eight children born to the union of Hosey and Odell Moore Jones. Betty graduated from Tuskegee Institute High School and proceeded on to Alabama State University where she earned an associate degree in education. After college she married Eddie Sims on April 21, 1973.
Betty confessed Christ as her personal savior at the age of six at Magnolia Baptist Church in Tuskegee, AL. In Cleveland, Ohio, she joined Christ Temple Church, where she served as a faithful member. In 1985, she united with the Militant Pillar Ground of Truth Church of God where she served faithfully until her health made it impossible to attend the last years of her life.
She departed this earthly life Friday, July 21, 2023. Preceding her in death are her parents; husband, Eddie Sims; one sister, Dorothy Jones Garrison; and one, brother-Albert Jones.
Those left to cherish her precious memories include 2 daughters: Kimberly and Lanese Sims of Euclid, OH; 3 sisters: Katie (Charlie) Chappell of Athens, GA, Mary Bynum of Huntsville, AL, and Shirley Cooper of Morrow, GA; and 2 brothers: Hosey Jones of Cleveland, OH, and David Jones of Tuskegee, AL. Additionally, she is survived by 2 grandchildren: Derik Sims and Vance Houston of Cleveland, OH. Mary Smith, her sister-cousin and caregiver, resides in East Cleveland, OH. Betty also leaves behind a host of loving nieces, nephews, and other family members and friends who will forever cherish her memory.
With sincere and deep gratitude, our family extends our heartfelt appreciation to the healthcare staff at the Waterford and Menorah Park for the care, kindness and generosity shown to Betty during her extended illness.
