Born on January 27, 1934, in Birmingham, Alabama, Mother Bettye Jean Boyd-Gary peacefully transitioned from earth to Heaven in the presence of her loved ones at Grace House of Akron.
A devoted servant, Mother Gary worked faithfully for many years as a Nurse’s Aide, all while being a loving and protective mother. She consistently encouraged her children to speak boldly and remain united. Eventually, she retired to devote herself fully to caring for her beloved mother.
Mother Gary gave her life to Christ and became the first disciple of Pastor Eula Greer under the leadership of the late Rev. Joe Hilton. Her spiritual journey led her to The House of Prayer for All People Church (HOPFAP), where she served under Bishop Robert D. Bell, Sr. There, she was known as a true “Prayer Warrior,” offering sound counsel and spiritual strength to many. She combined her nursing background with ministry and evangelism and faithfully served as President of the Missionary Board for many years, as well as a cherished member of the Mother’s Board.
Though she moved to Texas for a brief period, Mother Gary returned home to Akron and to her church family at HOPFAP under the leadership of Pastor R. Stacey Jenkins. Even as her health declined, her unwavering faith in the Lord remained steadfast.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Kaiser Gary, Sr.; her parents, Willie Boyd and Mother Lillie Mae Beamon; her children, Gerald Hoisten and Gwendolyn Hoisten; her grandchildren, Christina Boyd and Darius Hoisten; and her brother, Benjamin Allen, Sr.
Mother Gary leaves to cherish her memory her sons, Ron (Jo Ann) Boyd, of Columbus Ohio, Don (Thelma) Boyd, William (Juanita) Boyd, and Gerry Hoisten; her daughters, Torri Bell and Carla (Jey) Niederheiser, of Houston, Texas; 14 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; her Goddaughter, Latoria (Damon) Haines; and her dearest friends, Mother Greta Jenkins, Brenda Townsend, and Melvin Chambers.
Her legacy of prayer, faith, and unconditional love will continue to live on in the hearts of those she touched.
