Beverly Ann Thomas was born June 13, 1940, in Cleveland, Ohio. She was the seventh child of ten and first daughter of Charles and Charlotte Thomas. From a young age Beverly wanted to be a nurse, and as a teen began to realize that dream by getting a job at a Cleveland hospital. At 18, she met Harold M. Thomas and married him one year later. They were together for 60 years and had four children: Harold Jr., Karla (deceased), Kevin, and Kathy. Beverly studied while raising a family and became a registered nurse in 1973 and worked at Kaiser. She worked in many areas of nursing, including cardiology, emergency medicine, neo natal, public health, and corporate. Beverly worked in every major hospital in Cleveland before she worked for the City of Cleveland Heights, General Electric, and retired from Parker Hannifin.
Though Beverly loved her career, as evidenced by her becoming the president of the Ohio Nurses Association in the late 1990’s, by being a role model to many young women, in and outside of nursing, and by her insisting that her children and other nurses use proper medical terminology, she also loved being with family, immediate and extended. Some of Beverly’s favorite past times were playing the piano, playing bridge, going to book club, camping with family and scouts, being with her grandchildren, baking Christmas cookies with her kids, and generally “hamming it up!”
Beverly was the last of her siblings and is survived by children: Harold Jr. (Deborah), Kevin, Kathy (Ricardo Teamor); grands: Pablo, Joshua, Dylan, Jason, Cidney (deceased), Karl; great-grands: Vida, Lincoln, and many nieces, nephews and In-laws.
Beverly was a faithful member of Cleveland Heights Presbyterian churches since 1968.
